Upgrading the Sub soon :)

Doing some rearranging tonight to widen the gap between the two fronts to try and get more of an equilateral triangle, and toe them in some. Was able to get close but I can't widen them any more due to room needed for the second VTF15's spot on the right side.

That's why I have dual Sunfire HRS-12s. Small and extremely powerful.

S~

Did you double stack or 6db or spread them out for room response? I could stack these, but it would look goofy and if it fell over it'd kill one of us. Plus my room is so big with the kitching/dining area I think room response is going to be more important in my case.

Cool, thats how mine will be. I had to move my fronts back inside the sub last night. When I took the fronts out to about 10.5 feet and made the triangle, they just did not sound good. At least nothing like when I moved them out to about 7.5 feet recently and toed them in, which was more enveloping. So each of my subs will be on the outside of both front speakers. Should be about 11 feet apart, and 11 feet from the MLP.

Now I have to figure out what mode I want to use. Hsu subs offer max extentension and max output modes. Basically a 20hz or a 25hz mode. Up until now, to allow for more headroom in this large room Ive run max output which has more juice 30-50hz range, but suffers below 25 compared to max extension. Im thinking now that I have two, and should gain around 3db, running them both in max extension mode would be best to get more punch out of that sub 25hz stuff. Here is the long term output data of both modes from data-bass, input welcome!

Hz---Max Output db---Max Extension db

10---71---85.6
16---95.2---100.8
20---102.3---104.5
25---109.5---107.2
32---113---111
40---115.4---112.9
50---115---113.3
60---113.9---112.9
72---113.9---113.2
80---114.2---113.6
90---114---113.6
100---113.6---113.1

Here is the graph. I think for HT use one would want to be getting better output on the lower frequencies, and now that I will have two subs with more output. On the flip side, adding a second sub and keeping with max output, 25-100 are increased nicely by a 3db gain, and 16 and 20 gain 3db, which gives them better output down low.

My take on Audyssey sub eq.

It told my my subs were too low, and when I checked with its level matching on screen, it had them showing about 70db, but yet it set their levels to -8.0db in the menu. So, as usual, I ignored that. I ran the MLP measurements and then calculated, adjusted gain, and the re-ran until both subs were set at -6.0db. Once you get the MLP right, it takes the other 7 measurements with the subs acting as one. Once I finished, I broke out my db meter and once again, with both subs active at the same time, it set them about -5.0db lower than the other speaker. The nice thing is you can adjust them individually, or both on as one. I see no need to adjust them separately because the reading you get it lower than it should report because the other sub is not running.

At the end of it all, I found I needed to boost it 5db in the level menu to get them to match the other speaker. This left me at -1.0db for both subs when they were playing in unison.

Not bad, just added a little time to get both the gains right where the subs measured closely in output at the MLP.

Its just so damn in your face now. I watched Dark of the Moon, which Ive seen so many times, but there are just some bass hits that make you go damn. I went from someone shaking my recliner a little to flat out kicking it. Plus the bass just sounds better, it seems to mesh better with the other speakers now. When the building falls over in Chicago, holy ish...

Im super impressed at the bass and SQ, but Audyssey sub eq did a great job and made it easy to integrate two subs.

It didnt go from sounding OK to making pictures fly off the wall of course, but its just a sound you can't describe.

Here is some old data I had, so I decided to compare scenes. All measurements with same meter and 0.0 (reference) on the AVR volume setting with Audyssey active. About 11 feet away at MLP.

Scene---1 VTF15---2

Transformers, city battle at end---111.0---113.0
Act of Valor, gun boat scene---109.8---111.8
Iron Man 2, final battle---111.0---114.2
Episode 1, pod race---110.8---114.5

That sub is HUGE, and now you have 2?
Congrats, I have never heard anything bad about them.
