I like my Hopper, but find it very aggravating to have to sort thru the many network shows recorded every day to find the ones that I watch and delete the one that I do not watch. Sometimes, its hard to remember which ones I like since I have tried many shows and watched them for awhile until they got boring, which is most of them. Is there an easier way to do this. What am I missing?

When you like a show you can save it or save series then after a while all those series' will be in your recordings instead of ptat so that might help. Otherwise, there's not much you can do if you don't keep on top of it. They do add up fast.

Disable PTAT and just select which ones you want to record, individually.

But everyday you have to look through them to find the ones that you want to watch.

You don't have to watch any of them. Basically you have a large selection of shows to watch, you try out some of them and if you really like it you set your own timer for it to save to your recordings. It will be easy to find once you have it saved to your recordings and then you don't have to sort through all the network programming unless you're looking for a new show again.

Some people like to have plenty of options to choose from.

The Hopper is a pretty smart device, but it can't tell which shows you do and don't like, unless, you tell it..."keep, record."

And you don't have to delete the shows that you don't watch, they delete themselves in 8 days....
You can decrease the time as well, though I think you can't below (x) days (?). Reduce it to the minimum and it will certainly decrease the number in the list.

I would love to have a Hopper but afraid I wont know how to use it also!

Whatever you have now, the Hopper is a lot easier.

It is, in fact, quite easy. I learned that after moving from the ViP722.

The problem comes in when you get it into your head that it "should" work a certain way, rather than learn the way it actually works.

Reminds me of a poster complaining that Dish boxes don't offer an automatic "skip back" after you have fast forwarded thru commercials. Didn't know, and didn't want to learn about, the 30 second skip ahead feature, which most agree is much better.

I'm confused. Are you looking for the Hopper to suggest shows to you??

No, when you bring up the PTAT list of recorded shows. there are many shows that I used to watch and you have to go thru that thought process "Do I still watch this show, oh no, I got tired of that one". But from someone's post I see that I can do a series save and it will copy the show to my recording list, so after a few weeks, I will only have to check the PTAT listing for new series or one time shows that I want to watch. Is that correct?

Yes - I personally never look in the PTAT folder. From network TV, we watch Big Bang Theory, Gray's Anatomy, Revolution, American Idol/The Voice (my daughter) and a few others. The first three are saved as series and show up in the first folder/view/screen you get to you when you hit the "DVR" button.

Yes. I only use the PTAT folder when I'm out of things to watch from My Recordings or looking for a show that someone else has told me I should check out. I found the recent Beatles CBS special that way, a couple days after it aired....
