ads i'm seeing are: Best Buy Google Chromecast
50 cent off Dawn Hand Renewal on Walmart

Sorry had Ad Blocker for so long I forgot what they look like :D

as a pub member is there anyway to find out when it needs to be renewed? or do we automatically get notified when the renewal is due? I became a pub member because I like the news and information here and want to support the board. chas

You got a long way to go... November 6th, 2015 to be exact. :D

But you will get a notice before it expires letting you know. :)

Thanks for your support.

Bottom line to me,if your a frequent visitor to these forums, then a pub membership is highly recommended.I have saved more money on my Dish bill, and gotten quite a few freebies, that I wouldn't have without satgys.Oh I almost forgot about siriusxm, got some sweet deals from them all because of a thread here.

I have a suggestion. Take it for what it's worth. Ever since I've discovered Groupon, I've bought a lot of stuff there. The deals are very good. If you become an affiliate, you can earn 10% on sales. Now, I don't suggest just running it completely hands off but if there is a way to post up ads that might be relevant here such as a deal on TVs, surround sounds, surveillance systems, etc., you might see some pretty good response rates. It looks like there is a way to put in a sub ID that can reference which members purchase something so you can offer a reward such as free pub membership on deals that pay well enough to justify offering it.

The downside to most ads is that people in my position might not be inclined towards what the ad is offering. For example, if I go on Hyundai's website and/or do a web search for a Hyundai, the ads are going to be geared towards that. I might just be doing some research or checking out specs, but if I'm not a buyer, the ad is useless. Buyers have to be Ready, Willing, and Able. If they aren't all three of those things, then the ads aren't very useful and will generate minimal revenue. There are probably quite many people on here that are in the market for something like a new TV, laptop, tablet, etc.

Also, I would like to suggest accepting Bitcoin for payment. It isn't hard to do. Just create a wallet at blockchain.info and instruct people who wish to use it to put their username for satelliteguys in the message section so you know who to credit with membership.

Finally, just wanted to add I pulled the trigger on a 1yr membership after reading this discussion.

I've had adblock disabled here for a while, but it looks like some changes were made since the banner ad near the top disappeared. I allowed scripts from doubleclick.net and whaddayano, it's already showing ads based on where I browse/shop.

Also, I was wondering, do you still have SatelliteGuys shirts/bumper stickers lying around? I don't see a link for the Satelliteguys shop anywhere...

Damn was going to renew and had a brain fart and noticed wasn't due until 2017!! :D :)

BTW if a Pub Member wants to use an ad blocker here I have no problem with that. :) Just be aware that sometimes it blocks things it should not.

Make sure your ad blocker is NOT blocking the three following files.

(snip)
Out of guilt :p, I disabled my ad-blocker for this site and I'll admit, that one banner ad is tolerable.... :D My brain just needs to re-learn to "mentally" block it out now like it used to years ago before ad-blockers existed !!

As for those (3) files you referenced, I use AdBlock and don't see any details that those may or may not be blocked. I just realized, those are not SatGuys-related, so I may need to look again.

For me, what I've learned here and the help given to me has been well worth the price of membership. Heck, where for twenty a year can you have experienced tech help right there when you ask for it? That's a pretty good deal! Not to mention everything else this site has to offer.

Out of the six computers here that I use regularly, two have ad blocking on them, the rest don't. Been meaning to allow ads on one of those two for SatGuys for a while now, but it's one of those things I seem to never get around to doing, remember to do, but need to do. The other computer is my wife's and she don't want the ad blocking off for anything.

The ads here aren't a bother at all to me, the computer that I'm on right now is one I'm fixing for someone and the ads are up, I hardly notice them.

I disabled my ad blocker for this website when I had some message asking me to do so. I notice the ads somtimes are very tricky at times and like to act like they're part of someones post.

Just allowed exceptions for the blocks on this computer for SatGuys and the ads still don't show, go figure. Logged out and restarted the browser and all, no ads. Using Firefox 28.0

I've never been much of a fan of "inline" ads. Hover your mouse over the word for a second or two before clicking on it. You can then tell if it's an ad or a link the user posted.
