I want to use gtools for my reciever now that I've scanned in alot of channels. Question is, I know the Fortec requires an RS232 straight through cable (here's the embarrassing part of the question for me) is that a standard com modem cable but with two female ends? If so will a gender changer work with a male to female or might that cause some issue?

Thing is I have 4 or 5 of these modem cables sitting around and if I can just slap a changer on the end it would be nice, I could put one of these cables to use isntead of buying a new one :)

yes you can use a gender changer...I have a couple of them too :)

as to what you need for a cable, I don't know off the top of my head...each of my receivers seems to need a different cable :)

Thanks for the quick reply and the info. I'll give it a go with a com cable and a gender changer and see how it works out. It always seems like I end up with so many cables collecting dust, I'd hate to end up with another lol Thanks again

My WAG.
You probably will need a Null Modem adapter for the modem cables.

I ended up using an old DB9 male to female modem cable and the adapter as Iceberg suggested and it worked like a charm :yes I was just coming in now to say it worked lol

Thanks for your input mkm and once again thanks to Iceberg for clarifying the adapter question :up

yea, modem cables are straight thru, the modem does the cross.. "Null Modem" cables also do the cross (emulate a modem inthe middle)
