CNN and HLN gone/ Dish-Turner Dispute - Now Back 11/21

From what I understand now... this was a surprise for DISH. Turner demanded they remove the channels. DISH didn't have a warning so they couldn't get us a warning. Any warning given would have been only an hour or two before the channels were pulled. And most were in bed by then.

This is the first time I remember Dish and Turner networks having a dispute. Perhaps I am wrong, but it seems like they always resolved all the differences before pulling channels.

Turner and Dish's contracts for TNT and TBS run in a couple weeks. I have a feeling that Turner Broadcasting maybe stalling to sync all their channels on the same contract.
Why do I think this well NBA season is getting ready to go live and with having a pro-sports carried on their channels give them more leverage at the negotiating table. Because sports fans will be a lot more vocal then people about the news and hadful of other channels.

I think you are looking at the wrong thing. At this time of the season (Thank you Zombies) missing a basketball game for the most part isn't a big deal, in fact ratings are often low for many cities. Any problems DISH encounters from loss of TNT (lesser extent TBS) will come from losing programs like Cold Justice, Dallas, Rizzoli and Isles, Franklin and Bash, Perception and Major Crimes. Lucky for DISH some of those don't come back till later this year or early next year. But some are on now. TNT and TBS are watched channels that DISH I'm sure does not want off for very long. But for original programs, not so much for basketball at this time.

Your crazy, the NBA has all of tnt's highest ratings. I believe during the playoffs the last couple years they have set records for highest watched cable shows ever.

TNT isn't the second most expensive channel only to espn for a few drama shows and reruns.....

Re read my post - as you said "During the playoffs" As I said, not so much right now, not compared to those that watch the programming I listed.
Sports is sports, there are many of us that will watch at least part of games if they are on. But at this time of the season missing a couple games isn't a big deal. There are many season ticket holders who routinely either sell or give their seats to friends till later on. It isn't Basketball that people will get so mad at (At this time) it's missing popular shows on those two channels.

While I do see your point as NBA hasn't started yet but I many people would be mad though, unlike tv shows with sports you can't just watch the episode later, you need to watch live or at least close to live.

Last year NBA tnt opener had a rating of 5.4 million, not super great but in line with the other shows you posted. Hopefully this is all just a mute point though.

I will like at least that the first 2 weeks are available for nba. The craziness is there to see those opening games. Just hoping that dish and Turner settles their dispute over Maybe dime. Tnt streaming is great and was available for dish subs almost from the start

At least one tv runs espn in my home 24/7, if my ESPN went away well lets just say I would be looking for another provider, I dont care if I get heavily discounted dish programming.

There is a obvious way to end most of these carriage disputes: Mandate Ala-Carte.
-Satellite and Cable providers would charge basic service / dvr fees.
-Each channel could be purchased individually and the channel provider would set the price. The channel owner could offer a discount to subscribers who want to buy a whole group of their channels. The satellite or cable company would get a very small percentage of the programming revenue as an incentive to market these channels.
-Channels that are entirely advertiser supported and charge no programming fees would be guaranteed to be carried and included as part of the basic service - as long as they have a set minimum number of viewers each month. (It would be up to the discretion of the cable/satellite company whether to carry channels that fall below the minimum viewership level, and channels that fall below the minimum could pay the provider for carriage.)

Sure, some channels would not survive in this environment, but it would end the practice of subscribers having to pay for channels they never watch or don't want. This would also make cable/satellite much better positioned to compete with internet delivered TV - where (at least at this point) everything is ala carte, and that is one of the key things that cord cutters like about it.

I really don't care if they come back or not. But unfortunately we will NOT see our bills go down even if they don't come back.
Of course, if they didn't come back, the increase in February would likely be smaller.

If everything were ala carte I probably wouldn't have anything. There isn't a single channel that I'd have to have. This is coming from someone on the welcome pack & goes days on end at times never even powering on the tv.

This just reminded me, I need to start unplugging the dish receiver. I don't leave a room with the light on, it should be no different with the power hungry 722.
