Hi (again) guys,

OK, so I put a post in the ground, mounted the rotor, dish, etc - followed the STAB directions, watched the Sadoun videos, and I think I did everything right. The motor tries to move, the shaft/dish moves maybe a degree or so, but then the motor stops and rotates back to center. It tries to do this 2-3 times and then gives up.

It's almost like there's something sticking somewhere, but I'm not seeing anything - there is plenty of clearance in every direction and I do not see anything blocking the shaft from turning. I've tried two different coax cables (one about 50' long, one about 12' long) with the same results. Connections are all tight.

My setup is Manhattan DJ-1997, SAT connector goes to the REC port on the motor, and the LNB port on the motor then goes to a short piece of coax to the LNBF.

What is your zip code? What satellite are you attempting to move to? Is the receiver set-up for USALS type motor control for this satellite? Have you entered the install location's Longitude and Latitude? If so, is the longitude entered as West and the latitude entered as North and in the correct fields?

Zip is 44129. Now that you mention it, I have not entered lat/long into the receiver... And I can't find any place to do so! But I do have several satellite locations set for USALS. I originally was just trying my closest to due south, but I've tried 125W - 72W just to see if I can get the dish to move in any direction.

The manual for the DJ-1997 does not have much to say about USALS - I do not see any settings for location, all I can do is configure each satellite in its database to None/ DiSEqC//USALS. I haven't tried DisEqC and the motor doesn't move at all, nor try to, nor does the receiver indicate that it's trying to move the dish. So perhaps this brand-new-ish receiver doesn't really support USALS?

I did try removing the dish from the shaft so that there was no weight on the shaft to see if there was any difference. Same result - the shaft moves a tiny bit back and forth a couple of times.

Without the Longitude and Latitude entry, the motor has no values to calculate the motor positioning. Yes, the DJ-1997 supports USALS as it uses the same base firmware coding as the HDVR1200. The SOC has also been used in the X2 Premium I and the SR1 STBs.

Highlight USALS and press OK to open the parameter setting window.

I must be missing a configuration screen somewhere then - I've looked under everymenu and do not see any motor configuration options other than being able to select motor mode on each satellite individually. I can't find anywhere to configure location for USALS, or to move the rotor for DiSEqC setup.

Go to USALS highlight and try to hit OK.
Navigate to www.dishpointer.com and enter your exact address like this: 123 Dish Street, Somewhere, OH 44129.
Then it will give you your Lat and Long.

I got it! I had to do a full factory reset of the receiver, and then as KE4EST mentioned I had to hit "OK" while on the motor settings. I found this very helpful thread related to the HDVR1200 that got me on the right track:

Thank you both for helping me get sorted out. They sure buried the location setup!

I'm now getting most of the arc with 55-65% quality. Definitely need to fine tune but the rain will be here any minute.
