Bummer. Really wanted him to stay another year here in Minnesota

After a 19-year Major League career that saw him win nine Gold Glove Awards and be named an All-Star five times, veteran outfielder Torii Hunter announced his retirement on Monday.

Hunter said after this season that he was leaning toward retiring, as he wanted to spend more time with his family and wasn't interested in a part-time role next season. After roughly three weeks of being home in the offseason, Hunter officially decided to hang up his cleats.

Thanks for the memories Torii ...
Classy guy :)

Always enjoyed watching him play, even though it was against my team ... late in the year he played for the Tigers ... looked very avg in his last year in Detroit, unfortunately as they still need outfield help in Detroit.

All things considered, it is only now that I realize that he's played for that long in the majors. He's like someone that you somewhat expect to be on a major league team roster at the start of every season, and just be a regular outfielder with whichever team he's in. I think it's time since his role would be greatly diminished starting next year onwards, anyway. It might as well be on his own terms.

I always liked him as a player. I don't think his numbers are good enough though for the HOF

I don't think so either. He was very good for a long time, but not quite long enough. His numbers are surprisingly close to Yaztrzemski's, but Yaz played four more years. I don't think Yaz would/should have made it if he played four fewer years.

I watched Torii's retirement press conference. It cemented my opinion of him. A great teammate and valuable asset for every team he played for. I'm with Ice, I was hoping he would play one more with the Twins. I'm happy he came back for a last stand with Minnesota. I think his presence had a very positive impact on the Twins' 2015 resurgence.

I wish him well and hope he shows up in some role with the Twins in the future.

He played a diminished role with the Tigers his last year as well.
