*** PLEASE READ***

For the past few month now DISH employees have been able to test the upcoming new Carbon UI for the DISH Hopper series, employees were able to download this software using a special key combination on their remotes.

Earlier this week this secret key combination was made public, and I have been playing "Wack a Mole" removing these posts as I have heard about some issues this new UI could cause on some hardware configurations.

In talking with DISH it appears many of these issues are non issues, an I have decided to stop playing the game of wack a mole and instead use this to help DISH get more feedback for the new UI before it is released to the general public. If there is any forum with members who can give informed feedback its our members here at SatelliteGuys!

So I am opening up this forum to keep the Carbon UI talk seperate from the rest of the forum, which will help the people working on this software find and read your comments.

DISH has asked me to warn people that by doing this update is DONE AT YOUR OWN RISK. DO NOT CALL DISH IF YOU UPGRADE AND HAVE ISSUES. THEY ARE NOT SETUP TO TAKE CALLS OR HELP WITH CARBON UI ISSUES! Because this is SatelliteGuys we will try to support you the best as we can.

Some issues you may have running this test software include (but are not limited to)

- You may Perform the update and after doing all the steps your attached Joeys may stop working and your Hopper UI does not change. (In these cases the issue should fix itself overnight and you will get the new UI then.)
- The software is a work in progress and was not meant for public, so some features may not work at this time.
- Some of the apps you have not may not work.
- What you are seeing here is not the final product these builds are special employee builds and are not the same builds being tested by the beta testers.
- Once you upgrade to the new UI you CAN NOT go back to the old UI!

AGAIN IF YOU WANT TO DO THIS UPGRADE YOU ARE DOING SO AT YOUR OWN RISK!

So now that you have read all that and decided you want to try it now, here are the instructions for force downloading your Hoppers to get the upcoming Carbon UI.

Using your Hopper Remote do the following:

- Press Menu
- Select Settings
- Select Diagnostics
- Select Updates
- Press the Play button twice
- Press Recall
- Select Download Now
- Let it do its thing, do not interrupt it.

Again this is not recommended for everyone, we encourage our members to wait for the official release, however if you must do it now then here is how to do it, and this is the place to do it and leave feedback.

Welcome to SatelliteGuys!

Id like to note, when I did the button combo, it rebooted and nothing happened (yesterday afternoon).

When I turned the HWS off to the standby screen last night around 21:00, it prompted the download. That took about 30 mins, and then once it booted, it had to program memory which took awhile. Id guess the whole thing was 45 mins. So once you commit, and you get the prompt, no stopping it.

:eeek

Once again the reason I was removing the posts on how to do this was based on info I was told before I did not want to see you guys bricking your receivers, but now that I know that those issue seem to be fixed I figured it would be best to start a separate forum about it which helps everybody.... and I like it because besides helping DISH get public feedback and I get to stop playing wack a mole. :D

Any chance of convincing Dish to give this "group" a more recent, if not the current, software build ? If not, what's the point of users reporting bugs (that have long been fixed) or suggesting enhancements (that have been added in the meantime) ?

I think where I tripped it up is after the button combo reboot, I went "well that was nothing" and went to watching tv for a few hours :)
That's what I did. Then the Joey was messed up so I started unplugging things and I went to bed ill at 1 am and it was fixed this morning. Both Joey and hopper have new ui, and I feel better since Scott has revealed the new info that is safe and going to work smooth as butter :)

I think this is a good move Scott. One of the things I really miss from Directv is being able to participate in the CE program. Thanks for doing this!

You can still participate in the CE program, head on over to iamanedgecutter.com. :) Although I heard from a friend at AT&T that it will probably be phased out at some point. So enjoy it while it lasts! (That could be years, who knows!)

Be tough to do without a Directv receiver anymore. :) But thanks for the info.

Just a suggestion but a sticky thread with version number, release notes, and if there is another update available for us might be kind of handy. Release notes might not even be possible but it's a thought.

I dont know what the version numbers are now

The Hopper could have its own version, the Hopper with Sling may have its own, and there could be 3 or so versions for the Joey's / Super Joeys as well.

Shouldn't take long to get a quick compilation and consensus from the folks here who have updated theirs. My understanding that the Hopper w/ Sling is:

U201

Not sure about the Joey though.

I've read that forcing 1 HWS will 'invite' your 2nd HWS and joeys to update next overnight cycle.
I've not read about H2K updating.

I have...
1-HWS w/usb OTA
1-H2K w/usb sling
3- joey 1.0

Has anyone had H2K updated?

Correct, u201 on HWS.

Got mine done now waiting for guide to get populated so that the timers can fire. Overall I like most things though I'm not thrilled with the narrower guide time window. Also a bit sluggish but that is probably the combo of getting guide data and the fact it is a beta.

Think of it like getting a new Hopper, it may take 24 / 48 hours before the entire system is settled and working. :)

Any confirmation that this is true? I have a HWS in my living room that I would like to try out. But I also have a HWS in my bedroom that all of my Joey's are tied to. I really didn't want to mess with them until the final product was available.
