Official - I have a Hopper 3 Thread!

You mean "his" DSL. My DSL is 25mbs, consistently tests at 25mbs, and streams Netflix, Amazon, etc. 4k with no problem.
OK, you got me there. :) My available DSL will give me 1.5 down, yes, 1.5. That's why I went to Comcast a few years back for internet.

Hi All:

New Hopper 3 (2 Joey 2.0s) owner here. It replaced a HWS with2 Joeys.

We want to hear how about your ordering experience! Very easy and quick. Just chatted into Customer Service and 10 minutes later the order was completed with an install appointment of the next day.
We want to hear about your install how did it go? Install was professional and took longer than I thought it would.
We want to hear what the Techs did and upgraded at your house! Swapped out the LMB (I think that was the part), reinstalled upgraded COAX from the dish to the Hopper; replaced and configured all Joeys, and of course, the Hopper.
We want to hear your thoughts on the Hopper 3! I like the DVR's capabilities. The EHD transfer from my old HWS to this worked flawlessly. Unfortunately, as much as I like that, I can't stand the UI and Remote.

The Remote has a number of what I call multi-purpose keys (it does more than one action). One wouldn't be able to know what does what without researching this. Fortunately my old Harmony 880 supports the Hopper 3. No backlighting on the remote. BTW, where is the "Stop" button, not a "Pause" button?

As far as the Guide goes, the font used for the "information" on the right is entirely too large and that whole function takes way too much screen space. How about making display of that column optional and controlled by the user. In addition, I would allow placement other than the right side. Or how about a popup? Finally, how about allowing users to choose the background color. The Gray is very depressing in my opinion. I hope they reinstall the "HD Only" Favorites listing. A small thing but it will take some time to go through and select them all, whether I have one list or several small ones.

Also, there are a number of inconsistencies with the UI. There also seems to be a problem with timers that vanish without you deleting them (or my wife and I had senior moments :)). The record light doesn't seem to come on either when recording from a timer. I am still looking at the unit to see if it an "operator error" or if this is a real problem. It seems the entire UI recording process should be relooked at, especially in terms of showing whether something is recording or not.

Am on software U308. I would suggest some kind of transition document be prepared to show users here is how you did it in HWS and here is how you do it in the new UI.

We want to hear what you would change about the Hopper 3? See above. UI, Guide, Remote.

Hope this helps.

But not an issue in your case. DSL will never work with 4K streaming. It's just too slow....

I agree; streaming... no way. But, On Demand is not a streaming service. I've had Dish for 4 years & have always been able to record to the hard drive all On Demand programs & can still do this now with Hopper 3 with any other On Demand programs in SD & HD. When I asked Dish about this they agreed that this is a issue within Hopper 3 software that will be corrected.

I will answer these questions too:

We want to hear how about your ordering experience! Mike helped me out on this site within the request thread and it was relatively easy.
.
We want to hear about your install how did it go? Install was good. The guy knew what he was doing and was friendly. Mentioned things that previous contractors had not. Official Dish Installers are much better.
.
We want to hear what the Techs did and upgraded at your house! Swapped out the LMB I suppose, installed the Hopper 3 and he called up so he could authorize my wireless joey (that was wirelessly connected to my Hopper2) and he made it able to access the Hopper 3 so I did not have to install a new wired joey. This act on his part was very helpful.

We want to hear your thoughts on the Hopper 3! It is the best DVR on the market so I can't be too critical. Sports bar mode is the best. On the weekends I will always have 4 sports on my tv from now on. 16 Tuners are simply fantastic. OnDemand seems to download faster than my previous aforementioned Hopper2, which is surprising. And overall the picture quality on all the channels and OnDemand even looks a tiny bit better (Could be my eyes playing tricks on me though.)

We want to hear what you would change about the Hopper 3?
Now I have to take this question at face value and really reveal my pie in the sky expectations. Even though it is the best DVR on the planet I would like to see more apps. Maybe streaming of ESPN3, NBC Sports Extra, & eventually Fox Sports GO. Maybe an option to record every sport team that is a favorite in the Sports Game Finder apps without having to set individual timers. I know, I know, Stuff people have already mentioned in various threads on this site that people say probably won't happen.
The remote as previously mentioned takes some time to getting used to but I like the fact it is small. The Carbon UI is a bit strange but I will get used to that too.

Hmm a Co-Worker updated his Hopper with Sling to the Hopper3 noticed that there is no Stop button and was wondering how you stop things that your watching from the DVR. I thought you just hit the Back Button brought the options up to stop..

Yep, that works. You can also press and hold the Back button and go directly to Live TV.

Hopper 3 and 3 Joey 2's installed on Friday.

We want to hear how about your ordering experience! I used DIRT to place my order. It took several days to work things out but I was in no hurry.

We want to hear about your install how did it go? The install went fine. The installer was professional and courteous.

We want to hear what the Techs did and upgraded at your house! I don't know if the installer replaced the LNB but he did run a new cable from the dish into the house. But then for some reason he insisted on running a new cable from the basement to the Hopper even though my cable was rated fine. After he left, as a test, I hooked the Hopper to my existing cable and everything (including the Joey's) worked just fine. I went back to the new cable but I might just pull that out someday since it wasn't necessary.

We want to hear your thoughts on the Hopper 3! I like it better than I thought that I would. My family really likes it (HD on all televisions and whole home DVR). I do miss some of the features of the 722 (Dish Pass, DVR recordings in a list, search history). Also, I ordered a 40 remote to replace one of the Joey 52 remotes. I use a Harmony 700 for the Hopper and I didn't HAVE to make any changes (it mostly worked), but there were a couple functions that did not exist with the 722 so I went ahead and updated my Harmony for the Hopper. Another bad thing (I hope it doesn't keep happening) is that there have been a few times already that I have had to reset the Hopper because of no picture or audio. I'm not sure what causes it, but I do remember that it happened once when I exited the apps screen.

We want to hear what you would change about the Hopper 3? Bring back DISH PASS!! I used to have timers that would record shows based on keywords. Now I can't have that type of timer anymore.

The best way I do it is to press select and arrow over to stop playback.

4k on netflex is based on your subsrcription with them. If you got the free netflix from dish it the basic. Might need to upgrade.
Anyone heard any news about UHD on Netflix? Also, is there any information about future 4K channels that will be available from Dish?

Hit the "Select" button. You'll get a dialogue box come up and look for the square and just move over to the square and hit the "select" button again.
This is the stop button for the H3.

Yeah saw that as well.. :)

Yes, that is the way to get to the stop button, but, that takes 3 clicks versus 1...

4k is included in my Netflix subscription, but I am still not getting it on the Hopper. Is anyone getting Netflix 4k via their Hopper? I called Dish and the representative had no idea what I was talking about.

This maybe a rhetorical question is your tv uhd? Also what is your internet speed? You atleast 25 mbps. Try this search 4k or uhd on the search i found content that way.
