The new Mi Box is out

This thing is awesome ... I've pretty much side loaded EVERYTHING onto it including DISH ANYWHERE. I can't judge on the 4K side but even with the lack of TV integration this was everything the Logitech Revue should have been out of the box.

The main problems with the Logitech Revue was due to Google lacking the balls to keep updating it's version of Chrome to play videos from all of the sites that blocked it. But I think Google was more interested in eventually partnering with these companies than fighting with them. Thus making Google TV useless in the long run. I used Opera for a browser and it was able to disguise itself as Firefox or IE to access content that wasn't Opera-friendly. Google could have done the same thing with the GTV version of Chrome if it wanted to.

My Revue has been collecting dust almost from the beginning. Another point of serious irritation was it's inability to play back mpeg-2 program streams.

Mine still get some occasional use. I actually have my Roku plugged into the HDMI in port and I use imdb and/or check my email. Because I'm smug I did netflix while watching netflix in picture in picture mode :)

Not having Hulu crippled the device after Hulu blocked them but I still used PlayON with my Revue to access HULU but not in HD which sucked. Also marshmallow is so much better than honeycomb and whatever version was on Revue when it launched. The Android platform has evolved since 2010. This is the main reason the the mi box is more polished due to the more advance version of marshmallow.

Time to buy a new toy.

Purchased it yesterday, also learned to sideload, my impressions-
First the good, like the interface of the unit better then the Roku, a little slower then my Roku 4, but i like the look of it better.

Picture Quality at 1080P for some reason is better then the Rokus, went back and fourth using my receiver to switch inputs watching the same programs (used Vudu, Netflix and Food Network) on both boxes and the picture was sharper and better colors on the MiBox, do not know why, have not tried 4K yet, will later.

The bad, not enough TV Everywhere apps, a lot less then the Roku, I have written before that I like and use these apps on the Rokus since I refuse to put cable boxes in every room in my house due to costs and they would get seldom use ( like my kids rooms), android TV needs more, I did sideload a few of the tablet/phone apps and for some reason the picture is sideways on them, I do not have hope that Android TV will have more since they always seem to give up on the format and then start over and try again.

Sound, only getting PCM, no matter what option I hit-HDMI, Bitstream, Auto it only comes out as PCM.

No Ethernet port, should have checked that before I bought it.

Alright, I hate this thing, apps keep stoping as I am watching stuff, it has happen a few times on Vudu, Netflix, CNN Go and HBO Go, it locks up a lot and I always have to do a power cycle ( unplug), picture on Netflix and Vudu keeps buffering and/or dropping down to SD (and it is not my broadband, have Extreme 150 and the newest Buffalo Router #1900 right next to the box, did a speed test and had a 170 on it ).

Hmm, seems like this might be a hold off buy for me then.

Had high hopes for it. Maybe they will update it

Picked one of these up this weekend just for the hell of it. Didn't need it, as my fire TV does everything it will do except vudu.

On the flip side this does most everything it does except Amazon.

Not a bad little box for the money.
