Picked up a pair of these to replace my Sunfire HRS12's as one of the subs has a bad driver. Ideally I would like to have 15" duals to go with my Wharfedale Jade 7's but because of my room layout, that is completely impossible. These got nice reviews and seemed to be a nice balance for HT and music. These subs also had a more powerful amp and lower end than most of the subs in this size.

MSRP: $699 each/$1299 pair
Specs:

  • 19-220 Hz +/- 3 dB
  • Roll-off slope optimized to take maximum advantage of available room gain
  • Expect 2-3 Hz deeper extension in small to mid-size rooms
  • Powder-coated cast aluminum basket
  • 2-meter ground plane away from reflective structures (quasi-anechoic)
  • Dual high-grade ferrite magnets
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA)-optimized motor structure
  • Dual shorting rings reduce gap induction and lower distortion
  • Extended pole piece improves heat sink and thermal management properties
  • 2” diameter, high-power voice coil
  • Upgraded Nomex spider for improved linearity and driver control at extreme drive levels
  • High-quality insulated tinsel leads with 3-point-contact precision alignment
  • Lightweight aluminum cone with polypropylene dust cap provides excellent rigidity and pistonic behavior
  • Low-creep rubber long-throw surround for excellent durability and longevity
  • Sledge STA-500D DSP amplifier
  • 500 watts RMS continuous (1100 watts peak dynamic)
  • Efficient and cool-running Class D topology DSP control for accurate response and refined behavior under all operating conditions
  • Main power rocker switch
  • Auto-On / On toggle switch
  • 3-12V trigger with 1/8” (3.5 mm) TRS mini-jack input
  • Green standby mode with > 0.5 watts consumption
  • Stereo line-level RCA Input & Output connections
  • Input impedance – 47 k? (unbalanced line-level RCA)
  • Continuously variable volume/gain control
  • Continuously variable (0-180 degrees) phase control
  • Continuously variable (50-160 Hz) 12 dB/octave low pass filter frequency with disable/LFE setting
  • Fixed 80 Hz 12 dB/octave high pass filter on line level outputs
  • RoHS compliant, lead-free construction and world-wide safety certifications
  • Detachable power cord
Setup:

Quick and painless setup. Just unplugged the old subs and put in the SVS. Connected to a Yamaha CX-A5100 processor. Left sub plugged into L LFE and Right to R LFE. Yamaha set to L + R. Separates and directs to the appropriate sub. Reran YPAO. Huge difference. Amazing how 1 bad sub can totally mess up your setup.

Music:

Started out with Lady Antebellum's new album and some streaming from my laptop. The new subs and rerunning YPAO really cleaned and opened up my Wharfedales. Bass extended nicely down into the subs with out being overly boomy. Next listened to Joe Bonammasa's Acoustic Evening at the Vienna Opera House. Stunning. These are very musical subs.

TV and Movies:

Sticking to music, and pulled out my all time favorite Blu-ray concert "Joe Bonamaasa and Beth Hart Live in Amsterdam." Listened to it in DTS-MA. All I can say is wow.

Next I moved to TV viewing. Wasn't really much to watch that would have some bass. I had just turned the system back on, so the subs hadn't kicked in. Found "Monsters vs. Aliens" on one of the premium channels. The left sub kicked on first and then a few seconds later the right sub kicked in since I'm using L+R. Appropriate boominess while retaining its musicality. Put in the Martian next. There is where the nice rumbles and boom came in when the storm hit and their ship took off. Couch still rumbles without thumping. Watched part of Beauty and the Beast again, and it also dug deep.

Impressions: After only having them 2 days now, I am satisfied and impressed with them. They dig deeper than my Sunfires and blend nicely with my Jade 7's. They are very musical while producing nice rumble and booms in movie viewing. Overall these are nice subs for use in HT/Music setup.

I have not tried L+R yet, been running the monaural which is basically how XT32 does it. Kinda curious which one is better.

It makes sense for the right front sub to play the right front sound really...

SVS support is great. They emailed and called to make sure everything was fine and set up correctly.

After watching 3 different movies this weekend, really liking how they have blended with the Jades.

They were in my top 3 when looking, I just needed dual 15's and the PB13 Ultra was way more than a Rythmik FV15HP, and spending weeks looking at data bass tests and reading threads, couldn't justify it.

In their respective ranges, you won't go wrong with Rythmik, SVS, PSA or HSU,
