I will be doing some server work on Sunday Morning sometime after 10 am ET.

I will be attempting to move SatelliteGuys to be a 100% complete secure site using SSL.

While I do not believe that a forum like this really needs to be secure using SSL as we are not a bank nor do we collect credit card numbers, websites are now being downgraded by Google and others for not being secure. In addition now browsers are popping up messages (sometimes when logging in) that the site you are using or logging into is not secure. (sometimes it will even ask if they really want to log in here.)

A few things were holding us back from going SSL. While our server has been using SSL for years for admin features, staff email and other things we have never made SSL available on the forum due to a few issues...

#1 being not all of our Ad Agencies supported serving ads via SSL. We didn't want the page to give error message by saying that some parts of the site were not secure... that would be annoying. However we we were alerted by the final hold out they now support serving ads over SLL.

#2 SatelliteGuys is not just run off of one server, we have an offsite firewall from a company called Sucuri, in addition we use a group of 18 Cloud Servers located all over the world. All of the static content such as images, javascripts, and css files are served from these 18 servers. In order to do SSL from these cloud servers a special ssl certificate is needed. I have obtained that certificate. :)

#3 All web connections go through an offsite firewall, there needs to be a SSL connection there between their firewalls and our web server. The Firewall company now offers us this SSL needed to make it work.

So in theory this should all work. But if not I will undo the changes, but I have checked with our software support and have a green light.

Now with us going to SSL, after I am sure it is working well, I will work to enable HTTP/2 Support to SatelliteGuys, . HTTP/2 is the next version of HTTP, which comes with great performance benefits and improvements. We recommend keeping it enabled as it is supported by most browsers and is backwards compatible with old browsers that do not support it yet.

About the only downside I can see is you may have to login again once the change is made.

Because when making these changes, javascript, images and CSS files will not be available while I am doing the changes I will be turning the site off so that we dont get a bunch of upset users thinking something is wrong on their side.

We always try making SatelliteGuys better for you and here is another example of that. :D

Wish me luck. :D

Ok we are back open.

What a pain that was... glad you only have to do it once... but essentially I had to change things in every style, and for some reason in many of the old styles I hardcoded in the full url of SatelliteGuys.US to things like images and css files... so that took a little long than I expected.

I am still working on things, but if you see anything strange let me know. :)

For those of you using Google Chrome, http/2 support is now turned on to make things faster... but you pub members who don't see any add already know how fast this site can be. :D

Thanks Scott

Working here. No changes were made to it since it was already using SSL.
