What exactly is it?

Why would i want it?

What modem is being used?

Why do i need to rent said modem from Cox?
 
You don't need it. It's just a Whole Home Wifi solution of a modem/router combo of DOCSIS 3.0 with 802.11 Wireless AC and wifi extenders that use Moca 2.0. $10 a month to rent the modem/router and another $4 a month for each extender. Cheaper in the long run to just get an aftermarket Mesh Network solution, but like with dvr's people would rather waste money and rent boxes.
