Well my 2 cents here is this, Generally since i run a lawn care business i often wind up at places that have these dishes. The thing that works 90% of the time for me is ill be visiting with the property owner and mention the dish. They usually tell me the story about how they, or a relative put it up in the 80s for tv. Then i ask if they might be interested in getting rid of it, because i have a personal project i want to use it for. Ive only been flat turned down once, and the one time i mentioned using it for tv got an outrageous price thrown at me. Also doing this have scored a 1.2m and a 1.0m dish from closed convenience stores. Now if i could figure out a way to get the local cable company to give up one of the ginormous dishes they have...........

Holy Clarke Belt, somebody needs to jump on this. A Unimesh perf is one of the finest "consumer-grade" dishes going, and a 10-footer to boot.

Thanks for posting this oljim60, sure hope you can rehome it to someone soon.

I know where there's a 20 foot fiberglass monster on an AZ/EL mount you could get for nothing. I looked it over once when I was deer hunting next to it, and only saw one place where the reflector came apart, and it was only about 6 feet at the bottom. Cardinal Cable Co. used it to supply channels to a local cable company in the area. I think it's locked on the old Galaxy 5 position. I don't know how you'd transport that beast.

The amount of angle iron in the mount would weight several hundred pounds. Wish I had a picture of it. I'd post it in here. It's quite an up hill walk to get to where it is.

With this acquisition my 12 foot unimesh is up for grabs. Free to anyone who wants to help me take it down. It has some hail dents and only one small puncture about the size of a nickel. I planned on taking it down and using a hammer and dolly to straighten it, but I seem to work 8 days a week. It still works fine, but some 16 APSK signals are a little iffy. Someone with a little time on their hands could straighten it in a day. Another reason for going to the 10 is my balance problem. My vestibular nerves were removed due to a tumor awhile back and me ladders don't get along real well. The 10 will be easier to work on.20171001_153433.jpg 20171001_153505.jpg

I figure this free perforated 10 footer only cost me about $500! Truck rental and fuel $300, 8 bags of 80 lb concrete $48, rebar $12, wire for sensor and actuator $75, new dish mover $75! Not bad. Oops forgot the pole, another $30. But well worth it. Now I can take down the 12 footer and fix it. Plus with the perforated tiny hole Unimesh and my DP4 feed, no more small motors to mess with for Ku.

I called, and I left a note in the mailbox since I couldn't reach the front door because the yard gates were padlocked. I hope to hear back either way, because as much fun I am having with my slimline mod I know I am missing things.c
