That samsung 8 $99 dollar virtual reality deal was a scam. I preordered march 31..phone came today (4/21) ..i went to order it and they were "sold out"..I did get the free VR goggles though

Well...Best Buy totally f**ked up my pre-order. I'll spare everyone the full rant, but I basically told them where to shove my order. What a colossal let down and waste of time that mess turned into. Last time I pre-order anything from BB, and that from a long time loyal (elite+ level) customer.

Just got in a last minute "pre-order" direct thru Verizon to still hopefully get in on the pre-order promos. Shipping showing for Monday now.
$99 dollar promo is "sold out"

yeah...read that earlier, and I agree 100% that the whole promo was total garbage. I knew I'd never get that , and by Monday, I'll be surprised if I even get the free Gear VR. :(

Thats one reason I'm so pi$$ed off at Best Buy screwing my preorder so bad. Should have had my phone on Tuesday or Wednesday, considering when I ordered and when they started shipping.

Can't help but believe there will also be some backlash at Samsung over how that "promo", which was endlessly advertised thru all possible S8 outlets, has played out. It was essentially "sold out" before the phone even hit the official launch date, given how many outlets were shipping earlier in the week.

First as soon as you get your S8 make sure to register with Samsung this goes for everyone who pre-order the S8 make sure that Best Buy gets you a copy of your original pre-order paper work. That way when you go to Samsung Promotions you can upload that to them showing that you had originally placed the order before the 20th. You should be good to go as long as they can provide that to you which they should be able to. I always recommend people to deal with their carriers when it comes to pre-orders plus they get them to you earlier and easier to get your paper work due to it comes with the device. Sprint got my device to me two days earlier before it was released so I was very impressed with them.. :)

Pretty sure AC has that one wrong, at least the part about it being available to those who've already purchased the phone. The Samsung page clearly states that "Valid purchase period: 5/3/2017 - 5/16/2017".

Yeah we will see tomorrow since that's the 5th I have the app already so I will see. :)

Not terribly surprising, but this doesn't seem to be working for existing owners. I think the reporter @ AC got trolled by Samsung on this one, given they were the only news outlet reporting the promo as available to existing S8 owners.

EDIT: Confirmed it's bogus for existing S8 owners...the few existing owners who managed to register for this new promo are reporting getting emails that their purchase was outside the valid dates. The app wouldn't even let me register at all.

Yeah same here as well but hey it was worth a try. I have been really happy with the S8 so far it's a great device.. :)

Yeah saw that Note 8 Pre Order Sales are ahead of last device so folks will have to let us know what their thoughts are about the new Note 8.. :)

I just watched a segment from the TWiT Network about some Oreo users reporting their Cellular Data is being used even when they're connected to WiFi. The TechRepublic condensed the report and analysis of the behavior down to this:
TechRepublic" said:
The 3 big takeaways for TechRepublic readers
  1. Android Oreo could be causing some smartphones to use mobile data even when connected to Wi-Fi, according to a Reddit post from Unusual_Sauce.
  2. The culprit could be the Mobile Data Always Active feature, which is typically set to "off" as default, but could have been turned on in Android Oreo.
  3. Android Oreo users should check their mobile data usage, and check the Developer Options in their settings to see if they are affected.
The video segment from "The New Screensavers" that discusses the issue is here:

Sam's Club had the best pre order for Note 8 that I saw (unless you owned a Note 7) so I ordered one from there. $200 gift card and the Samsung free stuff, and no Activation fee if there is one. I'm hearing the clubs here are also throwing in some food because of the storm a chicken dinner for four. (Their ready chicken is actually very good)

I didn't buy the Note 8. The Sim card is different than my other Samsung Phones so I would no longer have a back-up phone. There are some times when I want a smaller phone or just change phones for awhile so getting the new phone would make my other phones useless as back-ups.

As long as the Sim card is smaller than in your old phone you could get an adapter to make it work in an older phone.
Amazon sells kits to adapt various SIM cards to different SIM slots for under $4.

Apparently there are "regular", "micro" and "nano" SIM card form factors and using two of the adapters will allow you to use a "nano" SIM in a "regular" SIM slot.

I ended up doing that. I knew about the adapters but there has been problems with them in the past at times getting stuck and then ruining the pins in the slot. But I bought some with good reviews and it works quite well.

I got the Note 8 for $579 new so as you would expect paid less by waiting awhile. It is a huge advancement overall from most older and many newer smartphones and a big but not huge improvement over my Note 4. (Note 4 was ahead of it's time and continues to be about as good or even better than many new phones where the Note 8 is an enhanced S8 and about even with the Apple X) The 8 is extremely fast in everything including downloading, the screen is incredible. I am a confessed non apple person but being objective this screen is a little better overall than the excellent Apple X screen. It's noticeable when watching a video the Note has more depth to it as best I can describe it.
Battery life is nearly unbelievable, the system it uses to keep apps not being used from running at all and some other options gives hours and hours of use and I mean actual use not just sitting there. The Note 4 is good but nothing compared to the 8 for battery life. Quite an accomplishment for a larger brighter screen with more PQ.
It has the loudest speaker of any phone I have owned, and probably the best sounding far far louder and better sounding than my Note 4. Calls do sound better than on the note 4. A HUGE thing for me is it finds my At&t Microcell better. (Somewhere along the way phones stared having problems using the Microcell my Note 4 and S4 are very hit and miss. Note 8 while not 100% right away it will find it) Wifi calling works as it should like my Note 4 but it isn't as easy as just using a Microcell because that is automatic at home where sometimes the signal isn't the greatest.
The stylus hasn't changed much but is quicker and does more. The wireless charging is a great asset, saves over use of that socket and is so simple to just put on the charger. And I don't care what Apple says I want a separate earphone jack with no adapter needed.
Samsung hit it with the form factor. Just the right width and when used horizontally watching videos/movies or doing anything seems like you are looking at an even bigger screen than it is. And the reviewers got it wrong, they complained that the fingerprint detector was on the back of the phone and should have been on the front. Not at all, it is perfectly placed when I hold the phone to put my finger on it without doing anything else, just hold it as I normally would and move my finger over to the fingerprint scanner. The optical scanner works flawlessly also.
I am pleasantly surprised there is less bloatware and you can disable some of it and for some even delete it. The control of what apps can access what and how notifications take place is advanced from any of my previous phones. Along with all that some other features like forced moving apps to the SD card are almost like having it rooted. With 64MB ram and the SD card there is tons of space.

There are a couple complaints, it doesn't have an IR emitter that a premium phone should have and still wish it had a removable battery. But it is somewhat resistant to water damage by being sealed better than the Apple and battery life is fantastic as long as the battery lasts for a long time.
