The PlayStation Vue Thread

Okay, got my first bill. Standard 8.25% Texas sales tax, no FCC fees. Can now look at official numbers.

If I use Core during football (Sept - Jan) & Access during non football months, my savings compared to my Dish 120 package are:
$612.27 annually :clapping

That is my plan. To any one curious who wouldn't want to change tiers, if I used Core year around, my savings would still be $536.50.

I dont need Access tier in February as the Super Bowl comes on NBC :). The only non sports channel I'd lose (that I watch) outside of football season with the Core pack is IFC. While I enjoy IFC, it's not worth $5 a month to me.

The only channel as a whole on Vue I'll miss from Dish to Vue is History. That is not worth $612 to me though. I can find a ton of great documentaries on YouTube, PBS, BBC, & Netflix to fill that gap. They're slowing becoming a reality channel anyway.

I will have more set up questions with the Cloud DVR, etc but only one for now:

I see I can sort by "Expiring Soonest" but can I see the exact date it will expire? Currently use the Android & iOS app with Chromecast.

You will hit it, since I switch to Vue ( still have Comcast broadband)

It has always been over 1TB since we switch to Vue back in Feb, I do not have a data cap, part of the deal when I signed a 3 year contract for the 1 gigabit service.

Personally I've only hit it once since swapping to Vue nearly two years ago.

Just depends on how much you watch. For us, we simply don't have the time to go over

How many people are watching is probably the bigger factor.

Each Vue stream is only about 2.3GB per hour at 5.2mbps. That's not bad compared to other video sources like Youtube, Amazon Prime Video, and Netflix which have bitrates as high as 20mbps for 4k content.

You get 2 people watching different things on a regular basis, it's pretty trivial to bump up against the cap. If you have a family of 4 with kids watching stuff on their own devices, it's almost guaranteed you're going to go over.

There are three of us, we rarely are watching the same thing, and streaming and OTA are the only sources we use. I am around 370gb used this billing cycle with 18 days left.

Our usage for the past 7 months. In GB

Thats what I did with ATT. There is an unlimited option and I almost got it, but decided to wait and see how much I actually would use. Turns out I made the right call.

For History they offer a standalone service for documentaries

At first, living solo, I would only use 300-350 GB, being careful to watch as much as possible OTA (especially sports) and not leaving something on in the background when I'm not really watching. Now that Cox has raised their soft cap to 1 TB (up from 350 GB) and PS Vue carries all my locals, I just stream everything now and leave it on when I'm not watching if I'm waiting for something to come on or as background noise. With that, I'm up to 400-450 GB/mo.

I work in telecom. I did the bandwidth math before switching. We won't hit it in our family. Beyond my normal internet use (keep in mind that already includes Netflix & YouTube) we'd have to watch roughly 330 hours or 11 hours a day on TV. Not happening. I'd be shocked if we watch over 20 hours a week combined. We'll be under 600GB as a family.

Spencer, nice! I didn't know History had that a la carte app.
 
Any news on the standalone Hallmark app? Oct 1 was the target date I saw in articles but can't find anything. I expect them to have it done by Thanksgiving to pull in subs looking for their holiday movies. This is a channel I don't want to pay for year around so I don't miss it normally on Vue, but I'll throw $12 at them for my better half to get her 2 months of Christmas movies. :)

I agree but that doesn't change the fact that a lot of people including me aren't seeing the increase on their next bill as Sony had announced a few months ago. Maybe it's just a one-month hitch, but Sony is notoriously bad at communications to its customers.

But Hallmark is launching a new service this week I think. It is supposed to much more along the lines of Hallmark and their Mystery channel from what I understand.

Feeln is becoming Hallmark Movies Now and will have nothing that is shown on the linear Hallmark tv channels. Hallmark Drama is a new tv channel that will show material from the Hallmark library. Who will be carrying that channel is unknown.

If you want access to current Hallmark movies and series, you have to subscribe to a paytv service that carries those channels.

Looking for a way to access their Christmas movies without subscribing. But so far no luck. Don't want to subscribe to a service that we only watch during the holidays.:help

You're out of luck. SlingTv or one of the other no contract streaming services that have Hallmark and HMM would be the cheapest. Sub from Oct 26 when the first Christmas movie premiere is broadcast thru New Years then cancel. Hallmark doesn't even put them up on Hallmarkeverywhere to watch online if you had someones paytv login.
