This is the part that I disagree with. If the customer qualified for the free antenna at the time that they placed the order, then Dish should still fulfill the offer. The timing was not the customer's fault since the customer had no say over when the contract would be reached to restore the missing programming. If they go through with the antenna installation, then they will be prepared for the next dispute with a local channel. Also, the freebie will generate a little good will to help make up for the time that the customer went without the local programming.

The antenna was to restore programming subscribed to that wasn't available due to a contract dispute that has since been resolved.

Part of me was hoping that when the stations were restored that POP, CBS SN, and Smithsonian would have ONLY been in HD, no SD. Just for the sake of seeing steps towards phasing out SD as station contracts came up for renewal.

I agree zippy. But, every time I bring up that the Hopper can down convert the HD signal on an SD TV the same as most channels down convert their HD signal for SD customers, I get almost crucified by those who just won't let go of outdated technology.
 
DISH Reaches Carriage Agreement with CBS Corporation



ENGLEWOOD, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- DISH Network L.L.C. has reached a multi-year carriage agreement with CBS Corporation for its owned and operated local stations, as well as CBS Sports Network, Pop, and Smithsonian Channel. The channels are currently being restored to DISH customers.

"We are grateful to our customers for their patience this holiday week as months of work has resulted in a deal that delivers CBS for years to come," said Warren Schlichting, DISH executive vice president of Marketing, Programming and Media Sales.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

I'm calling and asking them to fulfill the order. We didn't get to watch football on Thanksgiving. It was inconvenient that I had to explain why we can't watch football to my 74 year old in laws.

It will be interesting to see how the price increases in Jan. are broken down. I assume that Dish did give in more than CBS. But then to cover the costs to CBS, will the cost of the locals package increase from $10?
 
I would like to see them charge $12 in all CBS O&O areas and turn the blame around again on CBS. That would be hilarious to all the people that said “Just do what it takes to get it back”.

I can see that happening. Each DMA will have its own local channel pricing based on what it costs Dish to provide them. By adding in the $10 monthly rate for the entire sub base they are already set up to do just that. I can see that happening not just to the Dish base but also DirecTV and cable providers.

Charging different rates in different cities for the locals won't fly. What if 1 or 2 of the local stations were completely reasonable (Haha !! Hah hah hah !) ? They get penalized because of the bad apple(s).

Best solution: Charge per local channel !! Your local

CBS = $6.99/mo
ABC = $4.99/mo
NBC = $5.29/mo
FOX = $3.89/mo

Any price increase can not be solely attributed to the new CBS contract. Keep in mind that pretty much all retrans contracts have provisions for annual increases. And the majority of retrans contract renewals happen behind the scenes each year, with no publicity at all. It's usually only the negotiations that go down to the wire that make it into the press.
