Hopper2000 without carbon UI?

I can get the upgrade at no cost. But I am not interested in a 2 year commitment for 2 reasons:

1. I read on here about various Hopper 3 issues and I do not want to be locked into a new commitment if some of the problems they introduced with CUI update exist in Hopper 3, I don't want to be stuck with it for 2 years.
2. Being out of contract has gotten me discounts which is one of the main reasons I am still with Dish at this time.

The point you made about getting discounts is a good one. As far as problems, understand that there are tens of thousands of Hopper threes out in the field. The only post that you see are when people have problems which are not even close to the number of people that are not having problems. People don’t go on a message board and post that everything is working great, they post when they’re having a problem so the chances of you having problems is fractional at best

It does appear that DISH is probably not going to be supporting VIP DVRs too much longer.
There's no probably about it. VIP end of life has begun
Depends on what you mean by "supporting". They are stopping new activations of ViPs for new and existing customers, but the support of existing ViPs and replacements will continue on with no set EOL.

The hard drive in my ViP722k just died yesterday. I am hoping to get a Hopper Duo as a replacement.

Well, I guess I will see what Dish will send me. Either way, I need a replacement.

Will that include the Vip 211k and z? Because there are a lot of people with those using them in their Rvs and campers and I have one on my third account for my aunt in Arkansas.
For that matter, I have three deactivated ViP211k's, and it would be nice to know if they are still worth anything.

I would like to say on the Sat Guys website that my HOPPER 3 is running great. I' ve had it since last year and I love it more and more. Also love the new Wally because it is like the HOPPER 3 with guides , menus and it is a dual tuner and can be made into a dvr by hooking up an external hard drive and paying the one time fee of $40.00. Also love my DISH Anywhere app on my I-pad that I transfer all my shows to so I can watch later. When I'm at work doing security in my building, I can watch all the shows I missed from the night before. This has truly made my job so much better.

Exactly; many folks (not all) on these types of message board think they see a representative sample of the population, but it just isn't the case.
Just to chime in here, I went from 722 to Hopper 3 about 1.5 years ago and have had zero problems.
Miss the 4X FF just a little, but easily live without it & more than happy to trade it for 16 tuners.

I'm lucky enough to still be on the old Hopper UI. Dish has threatened to "upgrade" mine to the CUI on the 10th.

Fingers crossed that that doesn't happen, just like when they threatened me last June.

I'm also hoping my 83 year old Mother's Hopper 2000 somehow avoids the CUI download. She is experiencing early stages of dementia and having to adjust to the CUI is not something she needs to go through right now. I've put off upgrading her to a H3 for that reason alone.

I doubt it this time, I have been trying for months , went through this morning

FWIW: I switched TO Dish to get the Hopper3. The CUI I could take or leave, but all the UIs on DVRs are pretty sucky these days IMHO. I cannot see the day I would ever go back to cable, no matter how good a deal it might seem. I considered AT&T Fiber, but the lack of Sling-like functionality was disappointing. D* would be my second choice, but I lack LOS at my new house.

Well, DISH did indeed come through and put the new UI (U121) on my Hopper 2000.

The good: I'd say that for most functions the responsiveness is pretty much what it was with the old software. I'm pleasantly surprised. Kudos to DISH's software people on their efforts to optimize the code. I'd say they have succeeded in not forcing me to upgrade.

The bad: haven't found anything yet, but then I was only able to look around for a few minutes. We were mostly interested in watching TV last night. I'll have more time to poke around this weekend.

I hope that others that received this update on their original Hoppers have similar experiences.
