DirecTV has crazy retention deals right now

No, not at all. I am going to wait until the "vaporware" comes out to actually switch, like I said. And sure, cost gets passed onto the consumer, but Sling is ~$55 vs >$120 for equivalent package from Directv. Not even close. AND, I can easily choose to only subscribe to ESPN during football season if I want to, considering that is the most expensive channel and I only want it <16 days a year anyway, which brings that down to $40!

Also, I checked out Directv Now, they don't have a valid OTA solution at this time. Neither does Sling. So I wait. But when Sling (or Directv, or anyone, for that matter) does, I'll likely switch.

Finally got a winback offer in the mail. Wow. Someone could have a field day suing DirecTV for misleading pricing in their advertisements. Their offer ended up with me paying more than I was paying before for fewer channels! The lady also couldn't explain why the offer says "Approved customers with Select Pkg or above...price reflects $24/mo instant savings for months 1-12" yet the price goes up as much as $56/month after 12 months depending on the package selected.

I had disconnected to try out youtube tv, which was a glitchy filled mistake. so I called back and got $30 off for 12 months, $7 off HBO for 12 months, and they added back a previous promo I was going to get of $51 off for 12 months.

Nice, glad people still getting good deals, directv is doing their best to retain customers.

in my experience, when ATT fully took control, directv wasn't quite as generous as they were in the past with offers. however, after I got the above deal, the rep said to call back after these expire and ask for another promo. That's what I wanted to hear.

I'm currently on hold with DirecTV because of being over-charged over $50.00 this month and very likely it would have continued. Been on hold with 3 different people right now at 65 minutes, the last 20 with retention. Retention sees the problem but doesn't know how to fix it (?). You can damn well bet I'll be asking for some kind of discount or "free" stuff. This is ridiculous.

Please stand by.......................... :ballchain:censored

EDIT: Total time on the phone was almost 90 minutes. They were charging me an extra month for Center Ice and there was a "miscellaneous" $10.00 charge. He supposedly credited those off of my current bill; I'll give it a couple days and check the bill. I have auto-bill pay and asked if I could get a $10.00 per month discount to continue to do so. (I used to get a discount, but haven't for a while). He said the computer won't allow him to do so, so I told him my credit card on auto-pay doesn't work without discounts. I will discontinue it.

I asked him if he could sweeten the pot a bit since "I found the problem, no doubt it would have continued, and I just spent an hour and a half on the phone".

"There's nothing currently in our system that allows me to give any discounts or free premium channels". I said, "Really, and you're loyalty and retention?"

"Yes, sir."

"Thank you, bye." Click

They screw up and I was nice. How the heck do some of you get $78.00 off per month?

Call back I guess ... look at your bill and see if they credited you the difference from your phone call.

Then call back and be sure to get ahold of Retention right away.
Tell them what you went thru on this call and see what they can compensate you .... you could also try the Chat option although I am not sure if Chat is linked to Retention or not.

Crazy. I've been a customer for more than 14 years. I've called many times over the years to casually ask if I was in a contract, when my contract was over, etc. (never threatened to cancel as I never really wanted to)... I was ALWAYS offered some sort of discount to stop me from "thinking about changing". Today, as I'm actually ready to cut the cord and need them to come through with one of these amazing offers I get, "OK, I can take care of that for you..." He reads me the legal stuff and proceeds with scheduling the cancellation for midnight tonight. I even called back tonight "to verify everything is set up and good to go because I didn't get any confirmation emails," same thing. She happily confirms that the cancellation is all set. No inquiries as to why. Thanked me for being loyal for so long.

End of an era. *sniff* lol

Uh... so... nevermind. They just called me and offered $70 off for 12 months. :D I was literally on the check out page for my new streaming service when they called. And I usually don't answer numbers I don't recognize.

Called last week to cancel.
12 months left I was eating the $240 etf and going streaming. I called 3 times to lower bill but since I was getting $50 discount for the next 12 months I didn’t think they would offer anything. The last csr I talked to cancelled my service and sent email for the recovery kit.
That was Saturday and got email with shipping of recovery kit but the tracking number was not valid. I called today to make sure they sent it.
The lady ask me to hold and came back with the following:
$235.29 credit etf
$214.88 credit 3 months service
$50.00 12 month credit
4 premium channels free for 3 months
2018 NFL Sunday Ticket free.
$200 gift card

Haven’t added but with credits and gift card my bill would be around the $40 a month range.
All with no extension on contract.
I was ready to cut the cord since YouTube TV had my locals.
Directv had other ideas

Nice deal. I'm ready to cancel next month to go with Sony Vue but we'll see what Directv says first. :)

I called in today to cancel and they offer to reduce my channels to get to 60 a month for 12 months. I’ve been at 35 for the last two years. I knew it wouldn’t be that good but double the cost of directv now I’m not doing it.

They had not answer for it either. Didn’t even know the directv now product. Just time to move on and go with streaming of some sort.

If I was ever offered $50 off per month for a year, I would be THRILLED ....
Don't really know what people are expecting.

Must be nice; they over-charge me, I find the problem, I politely ask them for some kind of compensation for my time on the phone (over 3 hours, multiple csr's and retention over 2 days) and they have "nothing for you at this time..."

It would help if I could understand "Jimmy", and he could understand me so we could discuss the situation, but I keep getting outsourced. Paying this amount, especially for all the shopping channels, hispanic networks, religious networks, music channels, I dont ever look at, I'm at the point to give them one more chance or move on.

Called to cancel on Monday and all they offered was $15 credit for 6 months. I'm now with Directvnow after 24+ years with satellite (Dish and Directv). Just waiting for the boxes to arrive.

Those shopping networks, and others, pay DTV to be carried. So they help keep your bill down. They certainly don’t add to it.

I setup my cancellation for July 9.

How long does it normally take to get a callback with a better offer (if they make one)?

My call came about 3.5 hours before shut off, but I also called to schedule it that same day, so they wouldn't have had any advance notice of my cancellation as in your case.
