Andrew Channel Master 4ft/1.2m Satellite Dish (Ku band / C band) - $85; Worth the effort?

A receipt wouldn't hurt.

The 30" dish could be set up for a fixed dish so you don't have to wait on a motorized dish, such as fixed on 30W. Depending upon the H-H motor, might be worth inquiring about it.

Spare parts on hand can be very handy to have. If you negotiate a package deal on the stuff, it might be worth just getting it all and then sort things out later.

Take the lnb that comes with the 1.2meter dish, even if it costs a little bit more. Just because it'll simplify things for you later if you upgrade to a different lnb.

The rest isn't something you'd really need, unless he wants to just throw it all in, or only wants says $15 for the whole rest of the pile.

Yes, get the signed and DATED receipt written out by HIM stating what it all is. It can be done on a plain piece of paper.

Is your truck gassed up and ready to leave right now? Money talks. If somebody slides in there while you wait, it could be gone...

IMHO the dish is worth the $85, it's not free but these are excellent quality dishes. Other than a great dish, the rest of the "stuff" used isn't very valuable. As primestar31 suggests maybe ask if he would throw the rest of the "stuff" in with the deal, but maybe offer another $15 for the rest if that doesn't work. Always good to have some extra "stuff" :)

I agree with Prime and Cham. Take the QPH-031 lnb as your choice with the dish. I read that they are not making them anymore. They are high quality with two linear and two circular ku outputs. Circular would be a benefit only if something opened up FTA on dbs satellites. The Pansat had two tuners (dvbS2 and Turbo 8PSK for Dish hacking). With the size of dish,it may have the S2 tuner, which would be good. But, I wouldn't pay much for it.

Lots of good words were said about 1.2m CM dish..... I wish to add some poison in the honey:
- when CM antenna is dirty, it is very hard to clean it, especially the back of it where so many strength-ribs and corners where dirt is accumulated;
- original CM LNB-holder does not hold LNB on proper position and does not point it towards proper point on the surface of the dish. Well, this is purely my IMHO, I was writing about it in THIS thread;
- original plastic LNB-holder is also not strong enough and I've seen some of them broken.
Last two points from my list can be easily fixed if customized LNB-holder is used, something like
To sum up, Channel Master 1.2m is one of the best satellite antenna's ever made, in 1.2m category of course.

I like'em I have 4 or 5 of them that I scavenged out of people's yards. (free)
When Dish was having problems with their HD bird's wobble, I adapted a dish LNB to one and it pegged the signal meter.

You might just get in your car and drive the back roads and look for them out in fields etc. It's like hunting Easter eggs.

I was unable to arrange for pickup, or ability to schedule both together.

Owner of 4ft dish has offered to deliver it for me in a RAV4.
A. Concerns are having to take LNB arms off to fit in RAV4?

B. Does he have any mechanical ability?

a) He was talking about taking them off with a few wrenches, I just don’t know him.

C. Penetrant, the only one I can think of that has limited stink is WD40.

a) PB Blaster is rather overbearing in odor, if odor gets into fabric, I wouldn't believe would be pleasant.

E. He is supposed to be back around 4PM, and will call.

F. I am guessing I should be the one taking them off, but being tired I am not sure.

G. Am I over thinking this situation?

Think the back seats fold down so maybe there is enough space for it to fit assembled. If the seller knows you will be using it, I am sure they will take care taking it apart if required. Be glad it's getting delivered, I think it's really good of the seller to offer. I am sure it will turn out just fine and you will have a really nice dish to use!

Cham,
I did get it home by truck, and it had been down and in 2 pieces.
The base was much bigger than it looked, pipe was longer than it looked, and together it was probably 4-1/2ft tall overall. All which made it awkward looking and handling. So after seeing it I decided not to use his vehicle, he offered to even make two trips, and which I was grateful for. But concern for his vehicle on top, I waited till the truck was available with driver.

Being apart for a year, the carriage bolts were missing (dish to bracket), which he gave me an extra INB, and I ended up with some extra INB holders for my regular dish. Is it safe to pick up some at a hardware store, I am concerned about the strength? McMaster-Carr
316 Stainless Steel Square-Neck Carriage Bolt Super-Corrosion-Resistant, 5/16"-18 Thread Size, 3/4" Long
5/16" X3/4" is a guess at this time, need to examine closer.
Another situation bottom LNB rod screw or whatever fastens it in its slide in hole is missing, said he used a metal screw. Will provide pictures later.

Thanks to all!

Bolts will likely be fine, but be careful not to over tighten the SST bolts, they can gall and seize. Not fun. Nickel plating (galvanized) is usually fine unless you are close to the ocean (salt spray) or close to a road there you are exposed to traffic spray from road salt, CaCl, or urea.

Another picture, just to touch all bases, and in case of problems that I am not aware of.

I take it is still a good idea to get a receipt showing I bought it free and clear, in case it wasn't theirs to sell?

All suggestions, reviews & opinions are greatly appreciated.

Who took the pictures? Looks like somebody has been up there taking pictures. Should have had them bring it down after they got done shooting. That brick has the potential to be a head cracker if it got started down the roof. I live about 60 miles from Morgantown and If I was 30 years younger, I would have went up after it. I don't bounce as good as I used to and heal a lot slower too. :)
