PBS Counting Satellite Viewers

Does this affect the PBS feeds on 87°W Ku-band also?
The Ku feeds are just that, feeds for other delivery systems. The C-Band broadcast is their only DTH signal. (direct to home) I'm sure they are verifying the need for the C-Band broadcast. If the viewership drops below a certain number they will drop it.

Unfortunately, the number doesn't work in Canada. I know that we are not their target audience, but if you live near the border you know that many PBS stations are somewhat dependent on Canadian members' support. Anyway, I tried. I do hope it stays on Cband.

I have the option of watching on 103W or OTA but I selected option 1 for the BUD.

Called.

I sure hope they don’t kill PBS on FTA.

1 million dollars a year for a “niche” technology does not sound too promising.

I’m a fiber nut but I’m starting to feel like that song. “Video killed the radio star” except Fiber killed FTA.

More like cellular broadband killed FTA

This may be why;

Trump’s Budget Would Phase Out Funding For PBS, NPR

“The Budget proposes to eliminate Federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) over a two year period,” according to the proposal.

“CPB grants represent a small share of the total funding for the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and National Public Radio (NPR), which primarily rely on private donations to fund their operations,” it continues.

Whole story at link;

Trump's budget would phase out funding for PBS, NPR

Apparently they get most of their money thru private donations and corporations but may lose Federal funding so this might be why they are analyzing if keeping all the satellite feeds effective makes fiscal sense.

Thinking out loud.

350 PBS Stations
100Mbps PTP (Avg Price $650 MRC)
$650 x 350 =$ 227,500 MRC
$2.7 Million a year to link all 350 stations with direct fiber feeds.

Can someone post the number in this thread? I only watch 103 PBS occasionally and haven't seen it, most of the PBS I watch is 87w and OTA.

I called. Please everyone call and take the survey. I depend on this feed and have very poor internet. PBS wont keep the KU feeds on 125 long term either they have plans to move off those too. Also the ku feeds dont come in well for me due to extreme winter weather. I live in the country and the nearest OTA PBS is 70 miles away. I also cant afford to pay for satellite. I know this feed will not last forever but the longer the better.

I sure would love to see the stats on this from PBS.

When they said in their plans to upgrade, they wanted to keep the C band feed as a back up and get rid of the 125w feeds due to weather and upgrading to fiber.
