Dish Hikes MLB Extra Innings Price By 6%

Dish is now selling the 2018 MLB Extra Innings plan for $175, which is $10 more than it charged for the 2017 package of out-of-market baseball games.

DIRECTV, Dish’s satellite rival, recently announced that it has priced this season’s Extra Innings package at $173.99, which is a $1.20 increase over last year.

If you have a decent internet connection, why would anybody pay Dish or Directv for EI when you can have the same package, better even, direct from MLB.tv for $115?

Yea, that's true, But there is a delay on internet streaming, it's not as good as TV, but it is much cheaper. Also wait for MLB.TV on a promo weekend, they always run a special price.

Disagree that it’s not as good as TV. I think it’s better. There are many more options like viewing condensed games, audio overlay using radio broadcasters instead of TV, and better picture quality.

Your right about the delay and promo weekend. I got it for much less than 115 last year.

EI beats MLB.TV in the laziness factor....so much easier to channel surf (not to mention the ability to PiP)....whether the convenience is worth the $$$, who knows :)

That, along with my monthly internet caps, are my biggest things with OTT in general, and why I like the Extra Innings Package - neither of those issues apply! Is there a different company that does EI and MLBTV or are they both MLB? It seems strange to me that there is such a price difference?

With EI the cable/sat provider has to get their share of the money too. With MLB.tv the customer is going directly to them. That probably explains at least some of the price difference.

Do they do a good job of syncing the radio announcers to the TV feed? I have tried listening to the radio while watching the same game on TV, and I always found it annoying hearing what was going to happen before being able to see it on the TV.

Yes. MLB.tv syncs the audio from radio broadcast to the video stream.

I would imagine it being much better than that. I haven’t used this feature personally but am looking forward to it this season. I think it’s something new because I don’t remember it being a feature last year. I used to do the same thing for Miami Dolphin games back in the day because I rather hear the radio announcer Jim Mandich. He was an ex dolphin player that was much more exciting rather than the generic tv announcers. The sync was awful back then.

I use it all the time and 95% of the time it works great

Also used that feature to listen to Vin Scully when the Cardinals would play the Dodgers. Nobody compared to Vin Scully!
