Wired is always better than wireless. If wired isn’t an option, 5ghz is the best way to go.

It’s unfortunate that amazon doesn’t have an Ethernet port in their dongle. It’s a downgrade from the box it replaced.

I have an Ethernet port next to my TV as I’m fortunate to have Ethernet wired throughout the house. Not having an Ethernet port is a reason not to buy the dongle in my opinion. It’s too bad Dish Anywhere isn’t available on Roku.

That’s because the human eye can’t process much more than Hd anyway. In my opinion 4K was just another gimmick to sell new TVs and make people upgrade again and so will 8k or 10k. Most people aren’t going to have huge tv screens in their homes so they really don’t see the detail with more pixels that 4K has. Now HDR does make the 4K picture more vivid with color. So if you have 4K with HDR you might see and upgrade as worth it.

And 4K gobbles up a lot of bandwidth!

That really depends on the TV. Overall, 4K is, like a 1/32nd of an inch better. Barely noticeable. HDR, I've come to find (after two TVs in 16 mos.) is GREAT...IF you have a decent set. Presently, those are pretty much limited to Sony and LG OLED. .

The 4K content on display at Best Buy looks really good compared to the 4K content on Netflix, Amazon, iTunes.

Maybe it has more bits in the picture than what we get over streaming sticks?
 
I had 1 fire stick already, I just bought another one. I also have 2 apple TVs (a 3 and a 4) but I bought my first fire stick when I heard the dish anywhere app was available for it. I'm thinking about replacing 2 of my Joeys with fire sticks. I'm testing it now and seems to work just fine.

Keep in mind that you can only stream Dish Anywhere on 1 Fire Stick at a time..

Good to know. Thanks. Right now my kids are still young and we watch most of our TV together. I have a receiver in our bedroom and one in my barn. Most of the time we're only watching 1 tv at a time.

Could be the source of the 4k and whether its run through a processor. I know cable looks sharper to me than DISH does on HD,so maybe the same for 4k on cable? I know on the 4k fire tv stick I don't think it does HDR because the colors look faded compared to my 4k blu ray player on the same apps like Netflix or Amazon etc.

The latest 4K FireTV with the little dongle hdmi cable does HDR. I don’t think the previous model was HDR capable.

You are correct on both points. (I have owned both).

FYI, I also bought an XBox-something or other even though I have never played a home video game. At the time of it's introduction, it was the cheapest 4K disc player on the market. Anyway, it's Netflix app seems to be superior to the one on the new Fire TV. Though the Fire does, indeed, light up the HDR every once in awhile, on the XBox version the app itself is in HDR and it now has plenty of Dolby Atmos soundtracks whereas the ones promised on the new Fire TV have yet to show themselves.

If the Xbox wasn't so difficult to use, it would be my goto, er, ....box.

I must of got the older one that was still on Best Buy's shelves. My picture is noticably different in color outputs on the fire tv stick and my blu ray player.
