The PlayStation Vue Thread

Picture quality has been pretty good. Motion with 30 fps has been jittery at times when panning on movies and shows. Sports on NBC and CBS and Tennis Channel have a stutter sometime. 720p 60fps motion is very clean with sports. Comparable to Directv.

Sorry.
I posted this in wrong thread.

Vue might be changing their DVR-

The only thing I see that's different is now it's up to 10 profiles

Exactly. CordCutters News tried to spin this up into something it isn't (namely, the end of the 28-day time limit for recorded shows). I would be surprised if the 28 days wasn't so much a practical limit (server space) but a signed licensing agreement limit, whereby recorded shows are replaced by on demand versions, when available.

It's always been 500 shows and whatever episodes are available (recorded) within the 28-day window.

Unlimited episodes.

It's always been like that
Here are the only service differences I have seen for Vue

CAN I WATCH PLAYSTATION™VUE AWAY FROM HOME?
You can use PlayStation™Vue from anywhere in the USA! You can even sign up outside your home area and start watching right away. Here is what to expect if you’re watching away from home:

  • While you’re traveling, you’ll be able to watch the available local programming for that location. You will not be able to DVR the local programming in the place you are visiting. Your DVR will still record your home local channels, and you’ll be able to watch that DVR programming while you are traveling.
  • While you’re traveling, you’ll be able to watch your local regional sports networks. However, if you’ve never signed into PlayStation™Vue from your home area, you won’t be able to watch your local regional sports networks until you sign into PlayStation™Vue from the zip code you used when you subscribed.
  • NHL games are not available to watch when you are away from home.
  • If you subscribe to PlayStation™Vue away from home, you must return to your home area within the first 30 days of your subscription.
  • After you’ve signed into PlayStation™Vue from your home area once within the first 30 days of your subscription, you can watch PlayStation™Vue from any location for 60 consecutive days before you must check in again from your home area.
If you are outside your home area for longer than the timeframes mentioned above, you may receive certain error messages regarding unavailability of PlayStation™Vue or interruption of service. These can usually be resolved by signing into PlayStation™Vue from your home zip code. However, if you are receiving a message or an error that you are not in your home area, but you actually are in your home area, you may be able to resolve this online at psvue.com/subscription, or contact Customer Support at psvue.com/chat or https://support.us.playstation.com.

Yeah CCN tried to spin it just to get website hits, If you post that he is incorrect he will ban you.

Probably licencing that limits it to 28 days

Just popping in to say I've had no issues with Vue. Everything is still running great. I now have 3 Roku Ultras in the house. Worth noting, in Houston they added a fifth local which is my20 KTXH, in addition to Fox, ABC, CBS, & ABC.

Although I initially did this to save money, as an unexpected side effect, the Roku boxes, Vue, and other free apps (such as Crackle, PBS, PBS Kids, & CW) have really changed the way we watch TV. Before I had Dish on 1 TV for almost twice as much as I pay now for more on demand options and similar live options on 3 TVs. Also, I can stream my YouTube watch later queue as well as renting movies on Google Play, Vudu, or Fandando. The later of the two offer 4K rentals on Roku Ultra.

The YouTube TV "casting" comment above made me realize something... I wonder if I can rent a Google Play 4K movie, then start it within the YouTube app. If I pull up the Roku 4K app, it does not pull 4K options from GP. Then GP mobile app does not list Roku Ultra as supported devices, yet I can stream 4K YouTube videos. This might be a work around... any insight there? I might start a dedicated thread on that.

I also really like how when you "favorite" a show, it then tags that show or movie across all networks. If it does get removed after 28 days, it is still tagged and will re-populate, even if it airs on a different network. Or maybe a movie aired on IFC and FX, and although I originally tagged it on FX, I prefer to watch it on IFC as it is uncut. It will often pull & show VOD episodes (vs DVR) as well. Because of this, we rarely find ourselves going to channel specific apps. We did it often on Dish if we forget to record a series or started timer later. We can just pull it all from within Vue.

Still happy at $48 monthly including taxes.

When I had PS Vue for 20 months, older shows and movies I had tagged as a favorite definitely came back to the My Shows list after having been dropped after the initial 28 days, in some cases a year or more later. I can't say for sure if they came back on different channels, as I didn't pay that close attention for the movies. I will say, I was rather disappointed the one time I tried to watch a movie on IFC, as it constantly displayed its channel's logo on the screen or a pop-up ad for something else. I decided I'd wait until the movie came to one of my streaming services.

zookster, I can 100% confirm, we've tagged several kids movie on Freeform, it goes away after 28 days, it was then repopulated as recorded on Disney. I also had it happen with a SciFi movie between FX and IFC, but I can't recall which movie specifically. I've definitely had it happen between FX and FXX. That is a pretty cool feature. Also, several of Mrs. Jago's show will give us the option watch on network A or network B. She records a lot those sitcoms/dramas that air on multiple networks.

Yeah, the popups on IFC can get annoying if they're pushing a new show, but at least it's a free movie channel (compared to HBO, Show, etc) with no edits. I also can FF through commercials versus on Crackle, Flix, etc.

[Off Topic] You guys should check out The Oath on Crackle. Great show.

Spencer, I have buddy just trying these OTT services and his mind was blown when I explained the ease of the trials. Just try them all and see what is best for you. He's leaning towards Sling because he likes watching fishing and hunting. Although I love the outdoors, I don't watch it while indoors so Vue worked better for us :]. Also, I get crap OTA at my house so I need locals with DVR.

Just bumped down from Access ($44.99) to Core ($39.99) until college football season kicks back up in fall. I really dig the ability to scale up and down.

Outside of NCAA football (ESPN U, ESPN News, SEC Network) season I really don't need Access... maybe for March Madness. I will debate even that next year. We do drop Hallmark which Mrs. Jago typically only watches for holiday movies which is during football season any way... along with DIY and IFC. Those few aren't worth it for us.

A&M's first football game is 8/20 so to be safe, I'll bump up a tier on 8/18. That is off billing cycle dates and the jump in tiers is pro-rated which is nice versus having to pay a whole month ahead. Keep in mind, if you scale down though, it is not pro-rated down because you already pre-paid for current month. It waits until the next billing cycle to lower your pricing. All in all, this temp move in tiers saves me about $30. Worth it though as I'm not losing anything we need. Posting this took me far longer than it did to change tiers :)

Looking back on my old plan... I cut my Dish bill in half, saving roughly $550 annually and now I can view on 3 TVs instead of 1.

Add: Free Pluto TV (app and web based) has Fox Sports although it is not your specific region (FS SW, etc). Thought I'd share if that helps anyone debating Vue packages.

Yeah unfortunately Root Sports (part of AT&T Sports Network) has a strangle hold on the Astros and Rockets here. When their games are on booth Root and MLB/NBA, they get blacked out on the later (on Vue) due to local rights. I am not getting Uverse or Direct TV. So I catch what I can on ESPN as those national rights somehow trump Root while MLB/NBA do not. I know some folks get crazy and use VPN tunnels to mask their IP and avoid blackouts... I just can't be bothered. Then again... I understand because I'd probably go through that trouble for Aggie football blackouts :biggrin2

Are there any VPN services where a person can pick and stick with certain DMA and not wonder around? I would love to go back to Arizona and as far away as possible from these Sioux Falls stations.

One of the few awards shows I watch and wait for every year like clockwork are ACM's last night and this Keloland hick CBS station ran school late start across the bottom throughout the entire show. As soon as the news started the AZZwipes stopped the banner and never mentioned a word about school late starts.
I called them today and let the poor receptionist hear exactly what I think about their TV station.

I'm now seriously thinking of going back to Directv from Dish just so I can get the LA stations now if I can't find another option. I can't live with the banners on the Sioux Falls stations they continually run all year.

Look at Earthvpn, they have 16 US cities you can choose from. I use it to watch UK and Canada network players, but others use it to appear in the US.

I usually just use my slingbox to watch the dvr from our 2nd home in Las Vegas, when the Oklahoma networks pull that crap, which is often. They ran the banners 24/7 for the last 9 days during the teachers strike, except of course during their newscast and those precious commercials we are inundated with.

osu1991 thanks, I forgot how good PSVUE looks. I'm gonna give it try for awhile again. I am having an few more pauses using the VPN service than I would normally. Ping is 62 guess its the price to pay.... I'll see how it goes and if I can live with it.

Looks like Vue Finally admits you can't FF Fox Networks, Per the FAQ, some have reported National Geographic also.

Fast-forwarding restrictions
Programs saved to My DVR from FOX, FX, and FXX will not allow fast forwarding.
