called to cancel service

my 1 year subscription to the mostly music package was set to renew next month. i called to cancel and siriusxm started the offers right after i told them i wanted to cancel because i didn't listen to my radio that much anymore. they said lets upgrade you to the select package for a year for 90 bucks. i said no i'll pass. after several more offers the csr got down to 20 bucks for 5 months for the select package. i accepted the offer. i had every intention of cancelling. but, i could not turn down the last offer.

So you just moved your "goodbye's 5 months down the road. Another 5 months and you're looking at $40...

When Sat Radio came out several years ago, I said, "hell no, I'm not paying (I think it was 10 bucks a month then) for radio when I'm getting it for free. Then I bought the first of 5 vehicles that came with a 90 day tryout or something like that. I liked it but still didn't want to pay for it. This was back in the early days and they had a lifetime deal for about $360 or so with the ability to switch to new vehicles. I figured 3 years and then I'm getting a free ride. Well, the first switch went smoothly, but I think I ran into "we don't offer lifetime subscriptions anymore". I pointed out thatI had an agreement and after a little moaning, they switched it to my new ride. Same thing with the 3rd switch. The 4th time I had to talk with a supervisor and was told "this is the last time" plus a $75 switch fee. So I just bought a new ride, maybe my last as I'm 79 and it's a dream ride (Genesis S80) with yet another 3 month free tryout.

So I called them one more time and this time I had to go up the "chain of command". A nice lady said I was only entitled to 2 switches on my plan but she would make an exception ONE MORE time (again for the $75 fee). I went into my files after that and sure enough, I did find my original agreement and it did say the lifetime agreement was for only 2 upgrades.

I'm a commited Sat Radio user and when I get into my wife's car with a normal radio, I can't stand the gabber gabber that goes on and on between music.

$75 just for them to enter a new radio id into your subscription is a blatant rip off. I Played the cancellation game and best deal they would give me is $99+ fees for a year. If not for me traveling back and forth between civilization and off the grid areas where FM radio and mobile data is non existent I would just dump sat radio.
So basically @$75. you're just re subbing for a larger discount.

I've got an iPad with 7,000 songs on it. Bluetooth works well for me, I am never out of music! :)

It's the corporate way, just like $150 fee charged by an airline to change a flight. But for me the $75 fee has worked out since I got my lifetime plan back in 1998 or 1999 and have transferred the radio 5 times. I also have an iPhone with a playlist that's got over 24 hours of music on it but sometimes it's nice to have a song come on that I don't own, or be able to listen to a news network to see what POTUS is up to today.

I had some service done to my car and received a letter from Sirius telling me I could get two months free with no auto-renew at the end of the trial. I thought, what the heck! At least I'll have it for two months for a price I think is fair... NOTHING. The sound quality really blows! But it beats static when I'm in "the land of no reception" between Louisville and home.

Strange thing about the audio quality as you would think it's mostly "pass-thru" but the difference between my wife's '14 Fusion and my '08 G35 is substantial. In the Fusion, I think it sounds terrible - very nasal sounding or hollow (hard to describe). In my car, it sounds pretty damn good.

No bass in the fusion? I assume you corrected for the substantial differences in the speakers and amplification...

While the Fusion doesn't have the upgraded Sony audio system, it does have the mid-grade system (6-8 speakers, etc). It has fairly good bass too. Not the type you feel in your chest, but it can vibrate the rear-view mirror. Granted, my car has the Bose premium audio system (I'm not a Bose fan but in 'closed-design' systems such as a car, they can do a lot) and that certainly contributes to the difference. It has 10" speakers in both front doors as well as a 10" subwoofer in the rear deck. The back doors only have 6.5" speakers. :biggrin

My '07 G35x had an XM radio with the Bose audio. My '15 Audi has a Sirius radio with Bose Audio. The difference b/w the Infiniti and the Audi is considerable (worse on the Audi). I dont know what type of radio is in your Fusion, but my take is that the XM systems are superior in sound quality over the Sirius radios. There are a number of threads here that discuss the technical differences.

Could very well be the difference but maybe more so on "they used to build 'em better", no ? Are they still building Sirius radios along with XM radios or do you mean they've simply adopted the Sirius name on the hardware now ?

On a different topic sorta, did your XM radio drop out / lose signal in the same locations ? I've read it's likely an interference issue with T-Mobile wireless equipment. I have one location that I drive through every day on the way to work and it will consistently drop out although I think some channels aren't affected. Channels like 41 definitely drop out every single time but it seems like channel 8, 9, etc do not.. What's even funnier or stranger is it doesn't drop out in the exact same location on the way home. It's at the same intersection, but ~30 yards away from the other spot.

Call me crazy but with all the horrible stories I've read here and over at the XMFan.com forums I'm kind of anticipating calling in a little over 3 weeks and "canceling" NOT REALLY to get a new deal and trying to navagate the overseas language barrier to see for myself. I understand a zillion reviews don't lie so this SHOULD be interesting to say the least.

1. The compression methods used are different. Sirius compression is inferior to XM and cannot be updated. Sirius also eliminated their terrestrial repeaters after the merger. If you want to dig deeper on this topic there are several posts here that provide details

2. I experience drops in the same spots particularly when the seats are blocked by dense foliage on trees and physical structures like tall buildings, certain viaducts, etc. Dropouts are generally short in duration. The Terrestrial repeaters helped with dropouts in urban locations but my understanding is that they’ve been pretty much eliminated in recent years as a cost cutting measure.

I did not know that. When I got my first Sirius-technology radio in my 300 in 2013, the dropouts driving around town were horrendous, and 100% LOS in my parking garage. Every overpass would kill the signal.

Dropouts are nowadays almost totally gone. I can even listen to the radio in all but the deepest part of my 6-level parking garage, which is largely underground. Sirius radios supposedly have 3 tuners: 2 satellite and 1 terrestrial, and I always thought the fix was more terrestrial radio repeaters, not fewer! Is it possible they added some repeaters around the Washington D.C. area?

You don’t get what you want play CDR Roulette keep calling back until you get what you want

I may have gotten lucky today.

Still was sent halfway around the globe to India and called in to cancel. She asked why, I said between work and family it's just not worth it for me to continue and pay full price.

She "understood" lol and apologized. After a brief hold, came back with the same 6 months streaming plan for $30 offer I was currently on.

I then asked her what do you have for a year and she replied (after another short hold) 12 months for $120. Haha, I'm not a math wiz by any means but even I was befuddled by that one.

In the end, "I did the math" and opted to sign a new 6 month special tallying $38 with tax and done.

Now, I'm sure things would've become much more complicated and possibly heated like others have stated here and on FB had I turned the offer down and continued my original wish to CANCEL. However, I enjoy the service (the app does suck somewhat) and am now set til Turkey day when I'll try and "gobble, gobble" yet again a "special".

Correction to my last post. Terrestrial repeaters are still present in a number of larger cities and were not completely eliminated as I incorrectly stated.

SiriusXM just sent me an email for subbing again: $60 for all year. I presume that does not include the royalty fees.
