211 series receivers

It seems Dish is getting ready to retire VIP series receivers in about a year or two, but don’t know if this is true or not, however, it seems that way.

211z's work really well and you need them for tailgating or well that extra TV at your vacation home or camping.
They would have to come up with something independent like that regardless for that crowd if they went away from the 211's

Quick question: Are the ViP 411/211/211k receivers still "immune" from any DVR fees (other than the initial $40 EHD enablement)? If so, we may want to move from the ViP 722k we have at our Family shared vacation home and move to a pair of ViP 211 receivers.

For existing subscribers who downgrade to them, yes. For new subscribers signing up with a ViP211 or Wally, not so much. (Although technically, in the case of a new subscriber, it is a first receiver fee, not a DVR fee.)

So, I should add the 211 to our 722k account, remove the 722, and add the 2nd 211. Then all we should see is the 2nd receiver fee and no DVR fees.

If the 211 is turned into a DVR with the $40 one-time fee, wouldn't that remove the non-DVR fee whether new subscriber or not?

I haven't been able to get a straight answer on that one but from what I've been told so far the answer is that the 211/Wally is not considered a DVR receiver so the non DVR fee would still apply.

The 211K is not considered a DVR receiver because the HDD is not included. The user need to purchase the HDD to make it a DVR. I presume that rule will stay. In my case, it would really tick me off to have to pay a DVR fee for a non DVR receiver and besides, I own all of the equipment. I only pay for programming. I bough the 211K at the time for several reasons, one that I would not need to pay any monthly fees.

Keep in mind the VIP 211K only has one tuner. So when it is recording a program you can watch what is being recorded or a pre-recorded program. You can't watch a live program while recording a different live program.

If you connect to onboard OTA tuner - that gives you some flexibility to watch something else while the sat tuner is recording.

Provided you are in an area where you can receive an OTA signal and you have an antenna...
