Dish dispute with KFJX Joplin

yes I know that too also that dish is in a dispute with our Fox Affiliate because they didn't renew their contact so dish refused and had to take the channel off that is how I have heard.

As this dispute drags on, the CEO of Sagamore Broadcasting has written an “open letter” to Dish customers, claiming this particular dispute isn’t about money. Interesting read: An Open Letter To Dish Network Customers

“The fact is, SagamoreHill Broadcasting has had no meaningful discussions with DISH Network about rates. So far, our discussions have actually all centered around issues of legal language and stipulations in the proposed agreement.”

I believe them but as we have learned future access to digital content (as an example) is extremely important. So that's one instance where DISH isn't going to negotiate unless that part is agreed before the cost. I'm guessing similar here.

Sagamore might not be allowed to give away digital content. That might be held by the network.

If you read the FAQ's and the updates that are listed, you find that this dispute is about the contract language and rates.
Q. What’s going on and what is this negotiation about?

The FOX 14 agreement with DISH Network expired at 6:00 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2018. To avoid a disruption in your DISH service, we have offered to extend our agreement if they would negotiate some legal language but they refused. Unfortunately, customers of DISH Network have lost access to FOX 14 News at 9 as well as FOX sports and programs such as NFL Football, Major League Baseball, NASCAR, The Simpsons, Empire, The Resident, Lethal Weapon and many more of your favorite programs.

Both FOX 14 and DISH have extensive data about the actual viewership of FOX 14 and all the other channels. There is no dispute that FOX 14 is one of the most-viewed channels. In fact, local broadcasters have 40 percent of all local viewing yet receive a small portion of the fees DISH charges you.

We are simply asking for a fair negotiation consistent with the agreements we have with all other cable and satellite systems. This helps us offset significant costs charged to us by Fox for its programs and the most important operation expense of all the responsibility of covering the local news, weather, sports, emergency and community service information.

Q. Why wouldn't the local TV station grant an extension of the negotiation period to the operator so its programming continues to be seen?

We have offered an extension. Unfortunately, DISH has not agreed to negotiate some of the language of the contract.

Q. How will this negotiation impact my monthly bill with DISH?

This is completely up to DISH, which has built a very profitable business by reselling programming provided by local stations and cable companies.

DISH DOES NOT have to pass along any increase it may agree to with FOX 14

Whatever increase DISH and FOX 14 might agree to, to characterize FOX 14 as being greedy or holding viewers hostage is simply not true. DISH is a publicly traded $14 billion company

It is entirely up to DISH what, if any, increase they pass through to you.

Yes I was more using that as an example of language that could hold up even talking about rates. Maybe not digital rights that we commonly think of but something else. The above post is revealing - it is not just about cost they made it clear DISH won't keep them up during negotiations until at least that language is agreed to. So it must be important to both sides.

Does anyone see a pattern here?

Dish simply can’t get along with anyone.

I used to believe Dish when these channel take downs started first happening.

I was brain washed by dish back then.

But when you really look at the number of disputes dish has and how little disputes are with other providers, you soon realize the issue is with Dish

When we've been in an area with a local dispute, we've either "moved" to a nearby DMA or filled in the missing network programming with their app on our FireTVstick. We can also use DishAnywhere to stream a different DMA OTA local from our NY cottage Hopper, but few people have that option.

My guess is language centering around AutoHop and DishAnywhere and transfers.

Our local station all but said that on their Facebook page. They said the dispute is not about money, but about wording Dish is requiring in the contract and the local channel won’t budge either apparently. It’s been several weeks since we’ve had NBC. Matter of fact, they pulled it the night of The Voice season finale.

Much as some of us suspected. I know it doesn't help your situation but I hope DISH does not cave if it means we get less control when others want whatever is being disputed.
