Can someone give me an idea of whether I have a bad Amazon Fire TV Stick or if it is the remote that came with it?

I've had it for several months now and it always worked fine. But recently I'm finding that the right arrow and down arrow buttons on the remote are causing a problem. The trouble is that I don't know if it is the remote, itself, or the stick.

For example: When I click one time on the down arrow, to jump down one line in a program guide or the next row of apps, many times the thing will "slip" down 6 or 7 rows instead of just one. Same thing with the right arrow -- often it will jump 2 or 3 places when I just click on it one time.

Has anyone heard of this kind of problem before?

Most probably the remote. Use osu1991's idea and try it with the app see if it still happens. Could try new batteries too.

Batteries are always the first suspect but since the problem only manifests on certain buttons, that seems less likely.

"Bouncing" keys can be caused by a low battery (making the contact drags down the voltage) but again, you might expect that other buttons would do it.

The replacements from Amazon are $14.99. As with many Bluetooth (what the Fire TV Stick uses) and Wifi remotes, there aren't many third-party remotes. I like the the Harmony Hub remotes that feature Bluetooth capability.
