Does anyone else have horrible streaming quality on the directv app? I can be on home WiFi with 250 download speed and the picture quality is terrible. Log into WatchESPN or another app and it’s perfect quality. Just curious if this is a known issue or is there something that can be done to improve it.

Thanks guys

The app absolutely sucks. I wish they would make it better. More like the directv now app.

AT&T has stated before that they will be moving the DTV app (the mobile app for satellite subs) over to the new cloud-based OTT video platform that now powers DTV Now. So at that point, I would imagine that the video quality would be identical. The DTV mobile app will also get a UI makeover so that it looks consistent with the UI in the new DTV Now app that just rolled out last month. Don't know when all that is going to happen, other than "2018".

I’ll believe it when I see it especially with it being AT&T

Seriously? Why is that some people only see the negative and expect everything to change exactly the way they want it to over night? Do you really think a group of ATT execs sat around one day and said, "let's make the guide suck really bad?"

These things take a lot of time, effort, and money. DTV still has the best picture quality I've seen, more live sports than anyone else, and now more and more 4K events, including the World Cup. Is it all perfect? No, but it's hardly the end of the world.

I don't make the news, man, I just pass it along. We'll see what they do. I personally don't doubt that they will follow through with those plans but you never know how long it will take them to get around to it...
I know just having fun with AT&T

I’m not being negative I’m just going what AT&T has done in past and now

Well, I can think of one scenario that very well could derail AT&T from updating the DTV mobile app: they lose their merger case tomorrow. I read that current stock prices for AT&T and Time Warner imply that the market is pricing in only about a 50/50 chance of the deal going through (despite the fact that most legal observers predict that the deal will succeed).

Worst-case scenario for AT&T would probably mean they would be allowed to acquire Time Warner on the major condition that they then divest either the Turner cable channels (CNN, TNT, TBS, etc.) OR their DTV satellite TV business (though presumably not their other far smaller TV services, Uverse TV and DTV Now). I actually hope that happens. Would be interesting to see what AT&T would choose to do in that situation.

We're seeing too much consolidation between network owners and content providers. The similar merger between Comcast and NBCUniversal should never have been allowed to happen, IMO. And if the AT&T/TW deal sails through, that will give Comcast the green light to aggressively bid against Disney for the Fox assets. There's just no way that Comcast needs to consolidate any more control over our tech/media landscape. If Fox is going to get sold, I'd rather it be to another pure content company, Disney.

Gotta love people like you ...
ATT can't possibly be able to do this .... on one hand .
BUT
Its ok if someone else does ....

I would like to see what ATT can do if for ONCE they are allowed to do what they set out to do without EVERYBODY ideas of having to give up this or that to do so.

IF they have to give up TW, what was the point.

Were seeing to much consolidation .... says who ? You ?

Well, I get your point. If Comcast was allowed to do it, why not AT&T? The rule of law should be applied consistently, that's true. Frankly, what I would like to see is AT&T barred from acquiring Time Warner (unless they divest DirecTV) AND Comcast forced to undo their merger with NBCUniversal (or at least divest Universal and their broadcast and cable nets). But we all know that isn't going to happen. That horse is well out of the barn.

As for who thinks we're seeing too much consolidation? Lots of consumer advocacy groups and, in this specific case, the DOJ of the USA.

Well, AT&T won the case -- they've got the green light to buy Time Warner and, the surprising thing is, with ZERO conditions placed on them! So if at some point in the future, AT&T wanted to withhold HBO or Turner channels from distribution by competing MVPDs, such as Comcast, they apparently could. (They won't, at least any time in the foreseeable future, because they'd be reducing their own profits by doing that.)

Anyhow, AT&T's big plans are all on track to move forward. Will be interesting to see where things stand with their TV services a year from now. Per their own recent statements, we should now see that new $15 skinny OTT bundle called AT&T Watch roll out in the next few weeks.

How would that be any different than Comcast keeping D* from having Philly Sports ?
It would be the same thing as far as I* can tell.

It wouldn't be any different. But I think we can both agree that such a scenario would suck for D* customers who like Philly Sports, right?

Thats my point, Comcast already keeps D* from having Philly Sports .... no one says its right, but they get away with it ... If ATT pulls something like that with another provider, well particularly Comcast ....

OK, but NBC Sports Philadelphia IS available on Verizon FiOS, RCN and Service Electric, plus Hulu with Live TV and PS Vue. So it's not like Comcast is withholding it from their competitors in general. Maybe D* just didn't want to pay whatever Comcast was asking to carry it.

Unlike AT&T with the decision announced today, Comcast actually did have a number of "behavioral conditions" placed on their merger with NBCUniversal. I'm pretty sure those conditions would have kept Comcast from being able to do what you're saying happened with Philly Sports. (That said, I'm pretty sure all those behavioral conditions recently expired or will soon, as they were only in force for so many years after the merger went through...)

So while you complain that other companies get away with stuff that AT&T doesn't, today's ruling is actually the opposite situation. The most comparable merger to AT&T + Time Warner is Comcast + NBCUniversal. And in that deal, a number of conditions were placed on the company to try to keep them from harming competition and consumers. But NO conditions at all are being placed on AT&T.
