Canceled DirecTV and they sent an email, all they want back is the Genie....

Can anyone use the 2 regular minis and the Wireless Mini and the bridge or do I just throw them away?

Two days after I sent the Genie back via UPS because that is what the email said to do, I get a letter saying I don't have to even return the Genie, just recycle it. That was dumb!

And if this was Dish they would be demanding everything back so they could charge you for not returning it.

It’s sad, Directv is not asking for a lot of older equipment to be returned as of lately.

Someone told me it costs Directv and Dish like $22 to manufacture and ship a receiver to their warehouse.

If that’s the case. By the time they ship you an empty box, pay to ship the old box back, pay someone to unpack the box and put it on a bench to test it, it’s probably better to let the customer keep it.

With the churn, they likely have hundreds of thousands of reverb equipment in their warehouse.

Also, I could imagine a client would even cost less to produce.

I bet the only box Directv wants back is the Genie2 and HR54

AFAIK Directv still wants HR44 and H25s back, plus all but the oldest clients. Directv operates on a five year depreciation cycle, so when hardware is five years old it is worthless on their books, so I suppose some of the oldest HR44s are now more than five years old.

They have always operated on that five year schedule, ever since they went to a lease model. Unfortunately their system for recovery seems to be pretty flaky - when Directv said they didn't want something back long time customers always advised keeping it for a couple months in case they later say they do want it back, and only then recycling it.
