Proper grounding

My dish is presently located about 110 feet from house on a metal pole. What is the proper way to ground this dish?

Do I need to get a grounding rod and ground it at the dish or take the cable where it comes into the house and cut it, running it to a grounding block on the house, then connect that to a metal rod driven in the ground 4 feet and then run the cable from the grounding block to the reciever?
 
With either example, you are better off not grounding at all. Proper grounding of the dish is by using the same ground as what the equipment is grounded to. If you are going to use a separate ground rod, it needs to be bonded to the house ground. Best approach would be to place a ground block where the cable goes into the house, and run a ground wire from the block to your house ground.

As a once SBCA certified installer trainer, I agree with this. 110ft is a long way for grounding and if you install a new ground rod near the dish, NEC requires you bond that rod to the existing house ground with no less than #6 copper wire. And for 110ft it would probably need to be up sized a bit requiring some reasearch. Instead, using an F type ground block within 25ft of the main electrical ground for the building and using a minimum of #10 copper wire for grounding that block should be ok.

Grounding per NEC is for human safety bringing grounds to the same potential but that doesn't mean it will survive a direct lightning hit. That is far beyond what can be done in the typical residence.
