Two four hour power outages in the last four days. Smasho gets closer and closer... Congrats!

I almost turned off my main folding rig the other day.

For whatever reason the folding app was using 100% of the CPU... which is strange as I have CPU folding turned off... only do GPU folding.

Rebooted a few times, reinstalled and it was still happening.

Then yesterday everything started working correctly again.

Welcome back cwarren!

Losing the Dell had an effect on our Electric Bill, I just hope my wife doesn't put it all together and go into maximum energy savings mode.

Well, did anyone pre-order?

Nvidia Announces GeForce RTX GPUs, 2070 Starts at $499
Here's Every Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080, 2070 Card That We Know About

No, but I did look at them. If I decide to get one, I'll wait a few months, for bugs etc, to get ironed out.

I'd look but divorce would suck :ballchain Meanwhile, trying to diagnose serious instability with my computer.

I read a good review that said that since the first RTX cards would be using the first pass at the Turning GPU, if power is a concern, wait for the 2nd phase of RTX cards that should feature a smaller transistor size (10 or 7 nm) with better thermal performance and lower power requirement. For example, the TU102 GPU in the RTX 2080 Ti measures 31mm x 25mm, so NVIDIA isn't getting too many of those from the standard silicon wafer. Also, I see mention that the RTX 2080 Ti boards will be 2.5 slot coolers, so one board will use up three PCI-e slots.

Can's say about the 2080, but I just read the 2070 at max uses 175 watts where the 1070 uses 150. No power savings there at all. I don't know but I'd expect the 2080/1080 comparison to be similar.

Dang Spellcheck! Of course, it's the Turing GPU, not "Turning" GPU... Yeesh...

Until actual boards arrive and are Folding, their thermal and power budgets versus the previous family of chips is speculation. That's never stopped anyone here before, has it? ;)

Correct, the specs hadn't been fully released when I made the post and was really only joking with EatMyVolts, since I know he and his is very power conservative.
Honestly, I knew every generation got a little more efficient, but I didn't think this gen would be. I would have guessed about the same as the 10 series, but I see they are slightly higher.
