Charter shares hammered after it reports steep video subscriber loss

Normally one would expect this to force price drops, but the way the industry is structured we may see one or more go under before they can negotiate lower content provider rates.

In Charter's case, they may have to step up on their Internet pricing so that the prices better reflect the costs. Around here they seem to have cheaper Internet than most.

They recently raised the install rates for Internet only with a wireless router to $59.99

It used to be $44.99

Unfortunately if this cord cutting continues, the cable providers and ISP’s are just going to raise the prices for Internet only, lower the data caps and lower the prices for the bundles so streaming won’t be as attractive.

The cable providers are not going to put up with people bypassing their video products for very much longer.

I’m surprised that Spectrum has not determined what areas they are the only internet provider and decided to force people to take a bundle.

Not quite that but in Ct they stopped giving any discount as there is only slower DSL available, and raised rates by $10. In contrast they have competition in Florida and if you ask they will discount and charge less even without asking. They have raised my rate in CT by $25 over the last 8 months or so, some with an increase some with no longer giving a discount.

I sell Spectrum, Comcast, ATT and many others.

The cord cutting is hurting everyone.

Spectrum holds their introductory price at $44.99 which is good.

Comcast on the other hand continues to push $19.99 when it’s not necessary.

My local options:

AT&T Fiber 50/50, 1TB Cap: $40
Spectrum 200/20, No Cap: $44.99
Frontier Fiber 50/50, No Cap: $30

Spectrum's entry offer has faster downloads, but costs a bit more. Depending on how things are going at the end of my year commitment with AT&T, I might consider switching to Spectrum. Although most of my neighbors have gotten a deal on upgrading to AT&T 300/300 service for $50 upon renewal, so we'll see. I'd have to get pretty desperate to go with Frontier again, although their Fiber service locally actually has been pretty good from what people tell me. I just don't trust they will be in business in the future.

Anyway, Spectrum has lost a lot of customers in our area to AT&T, Ting, Google, and even Frontier in the past few years (in that order). Hopefully that will keep our costs low.

Wish I had some options.
It's either Cox 100M / 10M $70 and discounted when bundled with my tv and a 1TB cap (which I went over for the first time this month) :crying
or Windstream 3M / 500k DSL $79 and bundled with phone service with no cap

Well this August I will be with Charter Spectrum for 2 years, that means there is 5 more years that Charter Spectrum promised the F.C.C. no caps.
And at that time if they still don't have their World Box out to us I will subscribe my package through their Spectrum App,which has a better guides, better On Demand so I can turn in my outdated DVRs and save a few bucks.
I already checked and they told me I can get my package through my 4K Roku Stick+.

Sony Pictures TV are in talks with cable operator Charter in the US about picking up LA's Finest after NBC passed on it. Charter are going into original programming in order to retain subscribers and are to co-produce with Viacom and AMC. How do they plan on distributing original series to customers I wonder? Linear channel/On Demand or just On Demand? ‘L.A.’s Finest’: Charter Communications In Talks To Pick Up ‘Bad Boys’ Offshoot

Found out Charter Spectrum requires a cable box in the home,so I am keeping my Spectrum cable internet which they increased my speed from 60/5MB to 100/10 MB for the same price $64.99,with my own WiFi router.
I dropped my cable TV,went with YTTV/w Starz($40+$9.) and Philo($20.),savings costs will be $70. less per month, with my Roku Stick+.

I don't think it was very long after I dropped my Charter Spectrum cable TV before they sent me a new offer maybe after a month.Their first offer was for triple play for $29. for each service and just yesterday I receive an offer in the mail
for doubleplay for $39. for each service,I had to smile because at the bottom of the page(in tiny letters) it disclosed all of their extra fees, also when they folded the letter offer on the very bottom of the letter was folded down so when you would pull the letter out you would not even see that creased bottom part unless you unfolded it.
