Charlotte Motor Speedway introduces Bank of America ROVAL 400

Picked up some tickets already and looking forward to this one! Been a long time since we had something really new and different in the Cup season. :)

Why did they have windshield wipers on the cars?

For racing in the rain, duh :D

Due to the amount of land road courses take up, you can easily have rain in one area of the track, and the sun shining on another. Seen this a Pocono too.

A few years ago at Mid Ohio, the Xfinity series raced in the rain with the single windshield wiper. On the back windshield there were lights mounted for visibility as well. I can't remember if the red lights were on all the time or if they acted as brake lights.

Like a football game in blizzard conditions, this is not something I'd like to see every week, but it's fun to watch a race like this once in a while.

While I think this is interesting .... Why did they not talk about this before the season started, the fact that a Road course would be in the playoffs would be enough.
For this to just SHOW up, is ridiculous.
How do you think the actual Road Courses feel about being bypassed for a "We can make more money" made up road course.
Yet another race in Charlotte ...

I think they did talk about it granted not much and about the race I think they was looking for a actual skill race[no notes-no tape-they can change the course yearly] the other road courses are fixed courses, Indy has one of these courses too look for it next year or in the near future.

It's not an added race in CLT, it just replaces the fall race on the regular CLT oval. That in itself is a positive to me...one less 1.5 mi tri-oval race!

They actually started talking about doing the Roval last summer before the end of LAST season, but decided to wait until this season to do it...so the drivers and teams knew it was coming. They had a few drivers test on an initial track layout last summer. The only thing that was still open was the exact layout of the course and length of the race, which both changed a few times since the first Roval test they did last summer. To me, this seemed like a cool way to add another road course race and get it in the playoffs...and do something different for a change. None of the exiting tracks were going to give up a date to go to Road Atlanta or somewhere new like that, and all the tracks seem so hesitant to give up their current weekends, you wonder if Watkins Glen or Sonoma would have wanted to move into a fall date.

Indy has one of these courses too look for it next year or in the near future.

I think the Indy road course would be a great idea, too. As much as I appreciate the history of the Brickyard, the main track makes for terrible stock car races.

I just wonder if the new road courses might entice my boy Smoke to come out of retirement for at least an Xfinity run to try them out. :D

I wouldn't mind seeing Smoke in a race or two but they might have trouble making a seat to fit him, he's gained a couple of pounds since he stopped driving full time.:biggrin

For those curious...here's a lap around the new Charlotte Roval! They had an event today where ticket holders for the fall race could come drive their cars on the track for three laps. I couldn't pass that up!

The run is pretty sedate, as they were keeping a pretty tight grip on this one. Not nearly as liberal as they usually are when they do charity lap events on the main oval. I tried backing off and get a little bit of a good run, but would catch up pretty quick with the pace car running so slow. Either way, was still cool to get to try it out. It is an interesting course...feels very tight in the infield portion, plus the elevation changes make the visibility seem pretty limited as well.

Anybody interested in going to the Bristol Night Race? We decided we are not going this year, in favor of a different vacation later in the year. My buddy who usually takes our tickets when we don't go isn't able to make it either, so I've got a pair of tickets each to the Xfinity and Cup races. If any of you are interested, PM me for the details!

to me road courses are one of the worst snoozers of all time. of course Nascar is killing itself anyway with this ridiculous chase nonsense and the mindless segment crap. No wonder stands look fairly empty much of the time.

Smoke may go Indy car racing for a few races next year, would like to see it.

Cool news for sure. I was hoping he might run some Xfinity races later in the year, like maybe the Roval, but in one interview he pretty much discounted that because he'd have to give up too many dirt races.
