cant stand the new guide. (1104) its huge, has a blue line and its very slow scrolling. I rather liked the guide in 1037 and even the speed of the guide in 1088. I woke up this morning to another malfunctioning hr54-700. for whatever reason the menu graphics & info screens are distorted with tiny white lines all through them. on demand stopped working and my apps are gone. my recordings are in tact but everything else is just crazy. button presses usually freeze up for at least 20 seconds. unplugging and rbr does nothing. if replaced it will make my 4th 54 in a year. something is horribly wrong here. I had a 44 for years without issue. I think its the new software. what are the chances that many 54's are bad?
Interesting, I'm seeing none of those issues.

Anyone not like the large font it makes the guide run slow. I wonder why when they redesigned the guide they just didn't use the font from the old guide?

This redesign looks a little goofy if you ask me. The larger font is OK, but it seems to have increased the leading (space between lines) so it is unappealing from a typography standpoint. It just looks "wrong." I don't mind when things are changed, when it makes things better -- but this entire redesign seems to be a solution to a non-existent problem. It hasn't made anything better/easier, and arguably has made a lot of things worse.

It’s just getting worked on still they are going to put some of the old guide into the new guide just give it time imo

Jimbo, neither am I. If the OP has had four HR54s in a year I think there is something wrong with the installation

I'm thinking either a bad HDMI cord or connection making the white lines, if the units were replaced, it wouldn't happen on all of them without being something other than the boxes.

ive tried everything I can think of. I have a pile of hdmi cables that ive switched and tested out on other devices like an xbox and my neighbors dish.. right now im using a Philips gold plated cable 4ft. my signal levels have always been good upper 90's to 100 on most. unless I have a bunch of failing hdmi cables or maybe failing hdmi ports on my tv, I don't know what in the world would cause these sudden flare up of issues when the day before everything was fine. this morning, up at 5am and everything is back to normal. no distortions, my apps work again and on demand is working. im leaning towards a failing hdmi tv ports. when the tech brought the last 54 replacement when we turned it on it had the same white lines all through the menu system. he said hes never seen anything like it. but when I turned it on a few hours later everything was fine. it came with 1037. how would a failing hdmi port on my tv or a cable cause dtv services like on demand to stop working? or would it?

I hate how black the background is and huge the fonts are in the playlist. Its really a big step backwards in my opinion. I did see on AT&T Community forum, there are thousands of posts from people complaining about the guide when it was first released. There's so many threats over there. I guess we are power users and they had to please the majority. I don't see why there isn't an option in display settings for font size and guide color. I mean were talking about the same company that sells phones and the market is huge for themes and customization on phones (both physically and in software). Goes to show how disjointed and disorganized this company is. Its only going to get worse with bringing Time Warner on board.

We don't all have 55in TVs, especially in secondary rooms like bedrooms This is the first iteration of the guide that has looked good on all five of my TVs. And the font is basically the same size as on the "old" UI.

One of the things I don't like about this latest UI iteration (other than the stupid back bar still there of course) is that the larger fonts cause the program descriptions at the top of the guide to be very truncated.

Now I have to inconveniently press info. to see more details for almost every program I highlight in the guide now.

The white line issue is what I was thinking about ... does this happen with this recvr on any and all TVs ? If so, its not the TV ...
Your On Demand is an Internet based service ... for the OD to not work isn't that odd ... it takes time to load after an update ...

If you can change boxes and TVs and it still happens ... fine at one time and not at the next ... whats the temperature like when it does it and when its fine ?

I'm leaning toward an LNB issue IF it happens on all TV's. Maybe a Splitter, but I would try the LNB 1st.

You can even get program description text to overlap. I'll have to see if I can recreate it, but I'm pretty sure it was in the guide going from a channel with a large description to a music choice channel. Guide glitched and wrote text on top of other text in the upper right. I had it happen a few times.

the white lines through the dark colors of the banner and menu screens is similar to a brushed metal look. the text is very distorted also. I had been on 1104 for a week or better and on demand and all services were working normally right after the upgrade. then it all went crazy. I checked and no update had occurred since the 1104. I still don't understand what made it do that. all tv's have the same issue except for my sons room. the distorted graphics are not happening on that one. it is a stand alone h25. I took apart the lnb and looked to see if there were any loose connections and the lnb connection was wet, had spider webs and I could loosen the cable easily with my fingers. it was barely attached. I replaced the entire wire from the lnb to my switch under the house, about 15ft. unplugged the 54 and a few minutes later my graphics are back to normal, my apps are working and on demand is working. previously whenever id press the right arrow to access the apps I could access the weather app but the others gave me an error message saying I had old equipment and needed to upgrade to enjoy the feature. im glad its working again, I hope that fixes this issue for good. it sure has been aggravating. are those issues I had typical of a bad lnb or faulty connection even though my signal levels were very good?

Distorted graphics have nothing to do with the LNB. The only possible reason that changed was having the dish disconnected/reconnected from the receiver, causing it to go to "searching for signal", triggered some sort of reset/reboot.

I’ve never had problems with my HR54/700, other than minor issues which a reboot resolved. I received the 1104 rollout this morning. So far no noticeable difference in performance from 1138, which worked fine. New font size and blue line will take getting used to, but seems to be pretty fast and responsive. We’ll see if that remains the case after a few days.

noticed 1109 available this morning at 445am. started to download it but since ive had so many issues with my 54 thought it best to wait and see if my 54 is gonna survive :)
