Anyone else get it?

My Pixel 2 XL downloaded it at work this morning. Haven't had much of a chance to play with it yet.

Yes, I am aware of that. Plus the Essential Phone.

I'm sure there are a few people with Pixels here who already received it, or will be getting it shortly.

Methinks thou doth overestimate the market penetration of the Pixel line of phones.

It isn't as if milliions don't lust after them, just that they are just soooo expensive.

Yeah, I got it on both my pixel 2 and the 2xl the day it was released. I had already used the beta so was somewhat familiar with it, but the official release does seem a bit snappier.

Have a friend with the Essential , and it was also available on release day, but his took 4 times as long to download and install as either of mine, even being on a faster connection. I figure they prioritized the Pixels.

Or a few members here have mentioned having the devices and he figures some of us already had the software.

I received it on my Pixel 2 on the day of release. I am happy with it in terms of speed---everything seems quicker but a few apps like Titan TV give mea warnong message that they were designed for an earlier version of Android----but seem to work fine.

Buying just before the release of the next generation leads to some bargains but that is not necessarily an option for everyone.

I don't mean to suggest that the phone isn't desirable and there aren't legions drooling over its goodness, just that paying hundreds of dollars and not having any bragging rights is kind of a self-inflicted burn.

While the Pixel doesn't pull in Samsung type numbers, it's not a rarity. I've known people with Pixels, I see them out in the wild frequently.

Anyhow, here is a nice guide to Pie

Android Pie: Everything you need to know about Android 9

As with all OS upgrades, I did a factory reset on my phone this morning. All of my apps are installed, now I just have to sign in/customize them and get my home screen back in order. Just briefly glancing over some of the things posted on Android Central, I won't see a lot of the differences as I use Nova Launcher.

Lack of manufacturer updates is androids biggest problem
Given that a large majority of the apps require not much more than 4.x, I'm not sure this is really a problem.

If you're using a third party launcher, it is perhaps even less of an issue.

I've read that google is going to segregate the basic system from the custom section.

Then if a manufacturer has followed the android standard, you will be able to update the basic Android system separate from the custom updates.

This would push out the new operating system quickly, with manufacturers updates for their overlays or whatever being a separate issue.

That would be nice

I'll probably be lucky to see it on my new Moto G6 in the next 6 months to a year. :crying Lack of manufacturer updates is androids biggest problem

Motorola (Lenovo) has officially stated that the G6 will get upgraded to Android 9 Pie. It's one of their 10 different model phones that will get the update "beginning this fall". It's certainly possible that other models will get the update this year but the G6 won't get it until next year. Or maybe the G6 will get it next month. We'll see.

Baked For You: Android Pie Is Coming To Motorola

And, yes, Google did change the way that Android is structured to separate the core OS from hardware-specific customizations. That initial was dubbed Project Treble and it's present on all phones that initially shipped with 8.0 Oreo or later.

Since the Moto G6 came out on 8.0, it benefits from Project Treble, which hopefully means it's quicker and easier for Motorola to update it to Pie than has been the case with updates in past years.

Whatever they do - things are quite stable on Oreo and I'm doubting that there will be any jaw dropping developments for quite some time.
More will be like painting your house a new color to freshen it up.
