Well, she is being stubborn. Give her another try tomorrow.

I've tried to back up my Joeys, it never works. It (H3) shows available Joey Software. I checked both Joeys and it shows different versions than the available updates. I don't see an option on the Joeys to update. Is it usually done thru a Hopper Update?

Did it actually go into update mode or tell you that you have the latest software. I know a work around, but you may not like it. Do a partial reset - leave it in standby for 30 mins, then try the Update Software again. This is how I've had to update all my Hopper 2's and 3's that I'm pre-downloading at home
How do I determine if it's in Down-Load-Mode?
I'll give it a try...Thanks!

Yes. I always just leave the Joeys in standby mode and then update the H3 software. A little later, about 30 minutes or so, I will check both my 4KJs and both my WJs and they have automatically updated. Bear in mind, sometimes the H3 may have a software upgrade but the Joeys may not. So don't get too alarmed if your Joey software version stays the same after a Hopper 3 update.

Cool, don’t know why I decided to try and force the update. I guess after last nights storm that canceled the HUSKER‘s football game I’ve got nothing better to do today… I’m going to follow your instructions I’ll get back to This thread with the results.

Well, before trying the 30 minute wait I made sure the Joeys were in standby and gave it a shot.

My mistake was one of the Joeys was being used.

It immediately started downloading. I saw the following pop-ups in this order the first two I’ve never seen before so it must’ve been because the Joeys were on. I clicked on watch TV immediately when it appeared and check the software version. The H3 was definitely updated but now I have a new list of available updates for the Joeys. Not sure what to do about that??

You are doing good. Let the download finish up. The latest software version I have for the 4KJ is U495 and the WJ is U293.

I just tried to redownload software on the H3 to get 4KJoeys new software, it says, Your receiver already has the latest software installed. So I guess it'll do it on its own when it wants to???

Thanks for the help charlessrshell & HipCat.

That's showing you all the Joey Software that's on the Hopper. 151 is for the Wireless Access Points

Got it the day before yesterday and couldn't check it out. Played with it earlier and noticed that Neflix fired right up no problems, no relog in. It was more responsive than "normal". The programming now shows UHD instead of all just being HD, where before you had to "fiddle" with the DVR. I put up a UHD program and no UHD on my TV. So remembered I hadn't done a "pull the plug" power cycle yet. As I do after all OS updates. Did that and now Netflix is great. Now that I said that . . .

My set shows UHD res when playing any UHD programs. We'll see how long that works.

Downloaded mine on Thursday. Netflix worked great for 2 days but now back to freezing up. Resetting and reloading has not helped. I'm back to pulling the plug multiple times to watch Netflix.

I was able to really test out this version last night and it's surprisingly fast and responsive on everything I touched. Even playing the recordings that I have on my EHD, that I used to migrate to this H3 that haven't corrupted, many have out of the blue, but it was fast to load and play. Netflix worked great and I got HDR/UHD marked programming. BUT just now Netflix is back to it's no HDR/UHD marked or displayed content. Although it pops right up after asking for it through the voice remote, WHICH . . . . I'm loving the ability to use voice commands through the remote, Alexa needs work. This will make it so much easier for Grandma to use her H3. There was a partial list of the commands posted, which is how I learned that this was available, "Thank You!!". Is there a more comprehensive list like the Color Button codes that get compiled for each release? That would be really nice since the two are somewhat related and to have a list of Voice Commands and how they change, get added, removed, whatnot along with the button list would be great.

And I use the side buttons, AUX, to power on and off my AVR and last night when I would move off the SAT button to another then back, I'd get the "Link Tone" from the remote and the green LED on the front of the DVR would blink. I went to the "Diagnostics" page to see if anything would "change" when I did this and nothing happened. Not today. No tone, no blinking light.

I guess when I let it sit unused for a couple of hours, a few things that first presented are now gone or have changed. Not liking the Netflix thing. But it's just as easy to use the TV itself for Netflix and I do get a far better picture. That's it so far . . .

Netflix reliability improvements
I'm still curious about if it's Dish that develops the Netflix app for the Hoppers or is it Netflix that builds it
I believe it is Netflix that does the development.
Why wouldn't Netflix keep it up-to-date on the interface side ? The Netflix app on a Roku, for example, is quite a bit different. Even little things like being able to "Skip recap" (for Netflix-produced stuff) has been available for a year or longer but not available with the Hopper.

Netflix is developing their own software, but it has to run on the Dish operating system. I wonder if part of the problem is that Dish keeps changing their software so often, that Netflix can not keep up with all the changes?

That's an age old problem everywhere there are two parties involved where one makes the gizmo that has to work on the purveyors gizmos OS that is in constant development so much so that it's hard for second parties to keep up. That is especially true when some are severely reluctant to share Alpha, Beta, Delta, Dev, releases <cough> Apple </cough> and <cough> DISH </cough> . . .

I've been seeing a problem with the OTA channels with them periodically freezing/stuttering momentarily, then continuing. This happens only with the OTA channels and occurs fairly regularly. It would be as if it's some kind of buffering issue, but that's just a guess.
I mentioned this because hopefully the U705 might address this.
