Pac 12 Network

The alt channels are now only used for football games that are shown on a regional network but not on the national network. It only happens during non-conference play when there are so many games on Saturday and is not used for any other sport even if they have overlapping games. I only recall it happening once last year for 1 game. This Saturday, there are 2 games on regionals and not on the national network. That is most alt channels I have ever seen used at once. I’ve never understood why they keep so many alt channels active when they never use them.

On a related note, the 8/22 uplink report implies that Dish could be testing the addition of streaming versions (SVOD) of the regional channels. Perhaps integrated into the EPG or in the on-demand area. Of course, they could be nothing, but it is interesting.

The alt channels were used extensively in the first few years and then they were not used at all. So I am surprised that this has come out of nowhere. A good sign. But at the end of the day there is no real reason why DISH does not have the regional channels. DISH is a national provider and there is no additional cost, although it is a use of DISH's bandwidth, so there is some cost there. DISH offers the whole slate on its Sling service.

Basketball season is coming and there's many more games on the regional channels, so this is good seeing the ALT channels programmed again.
