New iphones for Fall 2018 Rumors and facts

But the MacBook Pro won't slip into your pocket... ;)
I'm interested in seeing how well these no-bezel phones (with only an IP68 rating) stand up to being pocketed without some manner of gaudy case that has so very little to grab onto without significantly interfering with use.

Surely Apple Care will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of Steve forever (Jobs 23:6).

I’ve reconciled myself to the Home button going the way of the red LED recording in progress light.

Guess which one I’ll miss more?

So is the Xs just an updated iPhone 10?? I have an 8 plus and like the size . When I played with a 10 last year I hated how tiny it was in my hands . The 8 plus is 5.5 inches . The iPhone XR is 6.1, XS is 5.8 and The XS max is 6.5. What’s the main difference between those three models compared to my 8 plus size wise ?

The Xs is an incremental upgrade to the X as we've come to expect with s models. You can tell that's what Apple thinks since the price is the same.
Pretty big technical increment IMO. Most of the rumor mill was thinking incremental but was talking more about the physical stuff, like sizes and so forth. I saw little on the A12 chip in the rumor mills. Also in the rumor mills was the idea of the Xr at a lower price point @$699 but I don't remember any talk about a lowered resolution than the 7+ has. And of course, my main bitch being that Apple is rather stingy on storage size on the entry models @64Gb. At these prices entry should be no less than 128Gb IMO.

The new Watch 4 interests me more than the phones as the fall detection is something I thought should have been on the Watch all along. Couple that with the ECG implementation, and it should attract the elderly or their families especially at the bigger sized one. For them the entry price is $429 I think.

For me, it comes down to this. I can get a Xr with 256 for $899, or a Xs max with 256 for $1,249. My 6+ has 128 and I’m using half of it. But the new Apple photo format will use much more storage, as I understand it.

For the extra money, in the max I get
A larger screen
Higher resolution
OLED (has +s & -s)
Wide AND telephoto lenses
More RAM
Water resistance to 2 m vs 1 m
Contrast 1M:1 vs 1400:1
Dual optical stabilization
Zoom 2x optical and 10x dig vs 5x digital
5 portrait modes vs 3
Video zoom 2x opt 6x dig vs 3x dig
3D Touch (worthless)
Longer battery life than Xs
Band 46 coverage

So it’s mostly camera and display. And speed due to more RAM.

I am REALLY disappointed that the Xr has lower resolution than my iPhone 6+.

And if I go with the max, at that point is it worth putting out another $200 to double the storage to 512?

The $100 delta from Xs to Xs Max is a no brainer.

So in other words the Xs max is as big as an iPhone 8 Plus just without the bezel ? Like I said I picked up a 10 last year in the Apple store and held it and it felt like an iPhone 8 non plus size model in my hands .

You're associating display size to phone size and that's not a reasonable thing to do when the new phones have relatively small bezels. If you need a Plus phone to fit your hand, the Max is what you're looking at and I'm pretty sure that it is still a tiny bit smaller than the 8+.

Maybe this link will help: iPhone XS - Display

Go down to the area under the heading "Compare iPhone display sizes" and select "iPhone 8 Plus" on the right side.

NOTE: viglink trashes the above link so if it happens to you, you'll need to cut and paste the link.

:D
I will let you know as I am concerned about that too as a guy who plans to use it for photography a lot. I have a spring loaded grabber ( like a selfie stick with short handle) and a gimbal I have used with my other phones so I am not against using those.

My Sony doesn't have a hard home button so getting used to a virtual home button in the image will actually be similar to my Android. I always shut off the red recording lights on my GoPros and other cameras.

The X series, all of them, have a non standard screen aspect ratio for video, being 16x9. So for video you will have your image cropped top and bottom but the file will still display 16x9 on a standard TV. The main advantage of the X series wide aspect ratio is to better display horizontal web pages and email with larger text or to cram more of the web pages on the screen. Like having two windows open at the same time. This is something I had to investigate before I was on board with the longer width in horizontal mode. After much concern I am now on board with what Apple has done here.

The A12 processor has been discussed before. It has a 6 core CPU, a 4 core GPU and a neuro processor for AI. I believe the X only had a 4 core CPU. So the Xs has a significant upgrade to processing power. Not sure you will see speed increase on elementary functions. But for the smart HDR image processing and video at 240 fps or 4K at 60 fps, it is impressive. I might note that my Sony Xperia can shoot HD at 996 fps for incredible slo mo. I can stop a bullet being fired from a pistol. So, the Xs still has a ways to catch up to the Sony and it has a full 16x9 4K LCD screen.

I was told by a rep at TD Ameritrade that the touch ID or face ID has nothing to do with their app so it doesn't matter to them if you enter the login from the keyboard manually, or the phone enters it through finger print or face ID. .

I called NFCU and they said their app will automatically shift to the face recognition.

How many people can you “face register” to use the phone?

Sadly, NFCU also told me my mortgage payoff would be three months later than I thought. :(

Unlike the iPhone X, these phones are capable of displaying a full 1:1 HD image (though it won't take up the entire display).

The problem isn't how big the pictures are. The problem is that if you want to store them at less than the full resolution, you have to use a third party app to shoot them. That was a move made to promote iCloud and higher storage phones, not because Apple was deeply concerned about the best possible photo quality.

If they were concerned about quality, they wouldn't have forced a situation where you needed to transcode from one lossy format to another to share pictures.
