I picked up a ASC-1 about a month ago and it's built like a tank. You can tell by it's weight alone it's not a plastic tinker-toy with a tiny transformer. Glad I bought it.

I've used mine for 4 1/2 years without one single problem.

so is the remote IR.
also guys i just purchased a 4ft ku band dish. any recommandations on a lnb.

about the LNB, if you only need Standard 11.7-12.2 GHz, I recommend the Maverick MK1-PLL
MK1PLL
If you want a universal LNBF (so that you can also receive lower Ku 10.7-11.7 GHz, for example if you are in the coverage zone of 34.5W), I recommend the GeoSatPro UL1-PLL.
Those LNBFs are very reasonably priced and are great quality
