The question of the hour is: why would anybody spend $60 on this when the AirTV adapter is half that?
Because there are goofy people like me who like all their components to "match", regardless of the fact that nobody will ever see them. With that said, I wouldn't spend $60 on the "Dish" adapter, but I would probably spend $50 on it before I spent $30 on the AirTV adapter. Yes, it is crazy, I know :)

You nailed it. I wanted to post something but didn't know how to word. I also want to test the newest DISH version too. Maybe it is better yet.

Shhh... don't give AirTV any ideas! They might raise their price. :shh

It's whatever the market will bear. Cord cutters are less likely to pay $60 for a peripheral for their AirTV than a Dish customer is. Seems to me that Dish tends to artificially inflate the cost of their accessories (because their customers will pay it?) Just my guess.

I kind of guessed the opposite. I assumed that the AirTV adapter was being subsidized, with part of the cost of the adapter being bundled into the cost of the AirTV box, because their customers would be more likely to want an OTA adapter anyway, compared to a typical Dish customer. This allows AirTV to list a lower purchase price for the adapter, to entice their customers to upgrade. Of course, if I am right, that also means that they still get paid some of the cost, even if the customer does not buy the adapter.

Subsidized by whom, though? Isn't the dual adapter only sold as an accessory?

Some black spray paint would have it "match" quite nicely for $30 less. ;)

Here is the new one I am using on my Air TV at work. Works great. Does not get hot.

While in MultiView, highlight a station and then change the channel to an OTA channel, say 002.01. Then move to another station and repeat...
Did it and it wasn't pretty. It was hard to get the two OTAs loaded, then the second one even while watching in full frame it skipped and stuttered. Putting it into record it really skipped. It acted like it does when you are a couple seconds off of live.
