Ku band dish

iam trying to install a ku band dish a 4ft offset dish wi th a Maverick (MK1-PLL) lnd. whats the difference in setting up a ku band dish and a cband dish. any pointers are welcomed.
 
C band have more FTA channels available, it uses a different lnb, its not affected by rainfall as ku band and it also requires a bigger dish to get most of the Sats. You can use that size dish to get some Cband channels if you you buy a PLL Cband Lnb and a scalar ring. May not get all the sats but you will be able to get a few depending on your location and Sat Footprint
 
i have a 8ft cband dish already set up. iam install another 4 ft dish for ku band only.
needing help trying to get it aligned up
 
I just installed a similar dish a couple days ago. I am not sure what tools you have available but I hooked up my spectrum analyzer and when I got a good signal I used my meter to identify the bird, then walked it over one bird at a time till I hit the one I needed. 97deg in my case. All that said the offset dish points much lower than my C-Band. Originally I used my inclination tool to set my dish at the 55deg elevation that the bird required but when I got a lock I was sitting closer to 45-50deg
 
The difference between setting up the two dishes is the offset angle of the Ku dish. The offset is added to the declination angle when aiming the dish.

a few things about a Ku offset dish... Like mentioned above, it looks like it pointing lower than it really is, due to its shape. That can be disconcerting when used to C-band prime-focus dishes. Many offset dishes have some elevation scale engraved on the mount. Just be aware that it's approximate. Another important thing is that due to the higher frequencies of Ku compared to C-band, the beam width is 3 times narrower than in C-band, for a given dish size. So here with a 4-ft Ku dish, the beam width is probably still narrower than on your 8-footer in C-band. That means that it can easily "miss" a satellite if it's not aimed perfectly.

Were you able to get your dish aligned properly?
NO, iam still working on it have a tough time. I was able to hit 97w at 81% today, which is close to my true south.
i just left it parked there so i do have a picture.
my thing is that iam not hitting any other satellites.
how do i get the rest of the arc. should i move the entire actuator arm in and out or what should i do.
 
Sorry for the delay but in my case I was able to hit 2-3 satellites without adjusting elevation starting at the west limit and just inching along to the east only having to account for elevation slightly every 2-3 Sats. I was using a spectrum analyzer and was able to see the signal leave from one bird and then hit the other.
