... but with Dish Network on many smaller markets they don't? DirecTV usually carries at least one more PBS network in most markets too. I'm "moved" to a bigger market where the local CW is a primary so the CW portion is not an issue for me (but DirecTV still carries an extra PBS in my "moved" market), but I wonder why doesn't Dish try to compete on this? I also happen to think both DirecTV and Dish Network should carry a MyNetworkTV station in ALL MARKETS as well, given that that station is part of the Big Six. Yet they only carry it if it's a primary.

I have Dish and get two PBS stations. One in Florida and one in Alabama! Both are in my local broadcast area.
Sounds like you’re in the Mobile-Pensacola market. The Memphis market is like that, PBS from Memphis and Mississippi PBS from Oxford, MS. If I remember correctly for some reason Mississippi Public Broadcasting isn’t carried in HD in that market on Dish.
Yeah, but since in these smaller markets the CW is usually a subchannel, so Dish could easily have the primary add CW to their contract. Same goes for the extra PBS channel.
Just curious, how do you know what DISH could easily do? Are you on their negotiation team? In the past, DISH has taken a firm stance with greedy providers and not added their programming.
I have never heard of the five largest networks plus MY Network TV called the "Big Six" before. MY is just a two hour rerun package, like most such rerun based "netlets" pretty worthless.
Technically MyNetwork is not a ‘television network’ but a ‘programming service’ kind of like the old PTEN (Primetime Entertainment Network) of the early 90’s. Seems like Warner Bros ran that service, it was a few direct to syndication programs if I remember right.
I heard it called part the Big Six on the OTA section a couple years ago. Iceberg was one of them that referred to the Big Six.
Big Three: NBC, CBS, ABC
Big Four: NBC, CBS, ABC, and Fox
Big Five: NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, and CW
Big Six: NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, CW, and MyNetworkTV
I could name six other netlets that are a bigger 6th than My Network.
MyNetworkTV was one of the two networks that replaced WB and UPN after they merged. That’s why it’s part of the Big Six.

Wait, what! I must have missed that. I don’t remember him doing anything to warrant banishment.
I can recall Scott posting something about him kind of going off the deep end with some posts and that leading to him (Iceberg) requesting that he be removed from the forum entirely.
He was kind of a jerk at times, but also the most knowledgeable. My anxiety couldn’t handle him in the past, but I’ve moved past that and if a scuffle happened with him again, I could handle it much better. I did appreciate all the information he gave me however, and he did have many instances where he was very nice.
In an attempt to answer the original question, it is quite simple: since all of CW's programming is available for free at cwtv.com, adding local CW affiliates to smaller markets is not a big priority for Dish. It kinda sucks if you live in one of those markets and do not have good internet access, though.
That is correct for most markets without a CW affiliate at all, or with a cable-only affiliate. However, as stated in the original post, many markets where the CW is carried on a subchannel do not get CW from Dish, because Dish does not carry that subchannel, and they are not allowed to import a distant. Even in markets where Dish does include WPIX (or KTLA) Dish does not group that channel with the locals or even advertise it as part of the package. So, many people with the fill-in distant CW might not even be aware that they are receiving it, if they do not go through the entire guide and stumble across it.
May I add that when Dish had Superstations, the affiliates were CW and MyNetworkTV. The reason being is that those two stations are part of the Big Six.
