I may be leaving soon if they don't give me the 39.99 they owe me. I've trying for a month and a half to get a refund for the first payment I made for Center Ice. I cancelled before the start of the season. This was never a problem before the Deathstar took over. I have to call them again Thurs. because it was supposed to be credited today at the latest.

The NFL is losing fans much like MLB

ok ... so ?

That has nothing to do with the NFL allowing the ST to expand.

If the NFL would resolve this kneeling issue they would quit losing fans.

All they have to do is tell the players that they cannot do that inside an NFL Stadium.
Of course everything they do has to be OK'd by the PA.

The also confirmed they are beta testing that new DTV over IP service. They plan to roll trials out next year. It will also use the DTV Now interface.

We've also begun beta testing our proprietary thin client streaming service and plan to roll out trials in the first half of next year. This will be a more measured roll out. And like our introduction of WatchTV, we expect this service to be EBITDA positive. And over time, it should lower our acquisition cost of our premium video service. And both of these use the common platform we introduced with DIRECTV NOW.

Good luck with that. It took me 9 months and certified letters to the presidents office, BBB and state attorney general to get refunds owed to me for charges they billed me after I canceled.

The once great service has been ruined by AT&T.

It’s all due to streaming.

People think they can get everything they need on the internet.

The real issue is Dish and Directv need to rethink their traditional Tv packages.

These $80/mo packages with a $50 discount for 12 months of a 24 month agreement are not cutting it.

They need to guarantee the price for 2 years and offer more a la carte options.

The NFL has a lot of problems. Players kneeling during the anthem is not even near the top.

The game is stopped too often for interminable replay delays; look-at-me idiots like Odell Beckham (and I'm a Giants fan); stupid end zone "celebrations" and excessively violent players are all ahead of peaceful, respectful protest. And let's add games that end too late at night for east coasters to stay awake for on Sunday, Monday and Thursday nights.

The Problem for all Third Party providers (Cable, Satellite, as well as Live Streaming services Playstation Vue etc) is the shear cost of a Monthly Subscription is just getting to high. Streaming is a short term solution, which will get correspondingly too Expensive as well.

Most of the per subscriber charges per Channel fees to the Third Party Providers are in the less than a dollar to slightly higher than a dollar per month for the majority of channels. Once the end users cancel and go to the Channel owners directly those per channel fees go to 5 Dollars plus. In the end cord Cutters will likely be paying almost the same as Bundled service within the next couple of years.

Does anybody remember the record industry?

Week 4 NFL Ratings up in five out of six viewing windows

Not only that, viewership didn't even drop in 2016 and 2017 if you adjust for the fact that ALL TV viewing dropping during those years. The problem isn't the NFL's so much as it is the whole TV industry's - younger people don't watch as much TV as previous younger generations did. Which makes sense, given that there is plenty of stuff on the web, youtube, Fortnite and so forth to occupy one's time that didn't exist a decade ago.

The problem with "OK just offer the games via streaming" is that people aren't going to want to watch a 3 1/2 hour game on their phone. You get like 15 minutes of action and 3 1/4 hours of ads and talking heads. Or maybe they will - one of the fastest growing things is watching people play video games. Yes, you read that right, people will watch someone else livestream themselves playing a video game and commenting. If you're willing to sit through that, you will watch almost anything!

Why? The money NFL teams make from selling tickets to the games is chicken feed compared to what they make from TV rights. As long as people keep watching on TV, they don't care if the stadium has a few empty seats (or a lot of empty seats if you are the Cleveland Browns )

I do think that the popularity of football has peaked and will slowly trend downward for years. The NFL isn't going anywhere any time soon, mind you, but the sport does have a problem on its hands regarding traumatic brain injury. It's a rough sport and the culture in the US is already changing so that nice middle-class suburban families increasingly don't want their sons playing high school football. Too dangerous. As youth participation in the sport wanes, so will the talent reaching college and pro levels. Meanwhile, less personal participation in the sport will only further decrease spectator interest.
