although announced last month, i only read about this last night.
abc has greenlighted a pilot production that would revolve around theo sipowicz working towrad his detective shield in the 15th precinct after his father is murdered.

there are familiar names involved in the pilot. stephen bochco gave his blessing before he died erlier this year. so has dennis franz who was asked to be in it but turned it down.

what do you think?

It just never ends. Hawaii 5-O, countless CSI spin-offs, Magnum PI, ... Hollywood needs to come up with original ideas. Every new drama is a doctor/lawyer/firefighter/cop/... That's bad enough, but now they're recycling old concepts from the same genres.

More recycled IP.
There is almost nothing on Prime Time the same quality as NYPD Blue because no one wants to take the time and right good stories. Everything now is too busy promoting pretend feminism and alternative lifestyles.

which is why this might work. you have the same basic creative talent behind it sans david milch and the late stephen bochco.

AMEN!

I've re-watching NYPD Blue on Audience from time to time. While it only ended less then a decade and a half ago, I don't think it would pass the PC test of the candyass culture you see on network TV these days. The zingers that Sipowicz would throw out still have me laughing til I cry. I say leave well enough alone. NYPD Blue was one of the best shows on network TV. It had it’s impact and it ended beautifully. To kill off an iconic character like Andy Sipowitz just to have a continuation of the series is dumb. Although it debuted a handful of years after NYPD Blue ended, Blue Bloods filled that void perfectly for me. Det. Danny Reagan answering to Sgt. Andy Sipowicz, now that's a winning TV combination!

some casting news to announce for the pilot. fabien frankel will portray theo. frankel is a 24-year-old british actor. returning in their original roles will be kim delaney and bill brochtrupp.

Kim Delaney! i have not heard much about her in years. She was confused with Kim Delaney on this board a few times but other than that very little mention. I know she was briefly on CSI Miami and then on Army Wives but oth of those were some time ago.

I wonder if this NYPD BLUE will have more butt nudity in the locker room like the original did ? I never understood why they thought that was a good idea to see Dennis Franz's old backside on tv.;)

given the state of television now, it is highly doubtful that a blue sequel could get away with what they did in the 1990's. i believe the late steven bochco said it himself.

Let's hope for true uncut R rated TV show shown on over the air broadcast. Beside FCC has no business in censorship, they should be focusing on radio and tv transmitters allocation. Let NYPD Blues be free of Gov't censorship crap!

Can't wait to see the soon be new NYPD Blues shows back on the air!:):hungry

you can hope but it is highly doubtful a blue sequel would have the controversies the original had. things have changed since 1993.

potential good news in the sequel? i asked kim delaney on instagram if she had heard anything regarding abc pickup (upfronts are in 2 weeks). i got a meme of an index finger raised.
