Is there such a thing called KA FSS band in US?

Been several years since I played with a Ka LNBF. Most DVBS2 signals that were found were data (on many satellites). Found a few open audio feeds (118w?) and video (91w?). No DTH programming.

Might be interesting to see if any data is unencrypted and if the streams contains any interesting file pushes.

DirecTV carriers were received, but encrypted.

What do you mean?
I meant what I posted.

Up to the point that DIRECTV had a couple of broadband satellites that they needed to repurpose (Spaceway 1 and Spaceway 2), Ka was a band primarily used for data. The way they treat it, the bandwidth yield is relatively poor (6-7MHz per HD channel with AVC compression?). Adding FSS to the equation probably doesn't make it better if one of the key goals is to use OTARD permitted dishes.

Unless Ku band is completely used up, why bother?

FSS is not a direct to home distribution service. If consideration is limited to linear delivery of a " live broadcast" service for redistribution, one might think this way.

Consumption has changed and KA is quite efficient for pushed content for local storage. You might label this transfer as data, but the end user often consumes content as a linear service. Is this televison delivery by Ka? ;)

File delivery and TV delivery are two different beasties. TV delivery to STBs must be linear while data delivery has no such requirement. Data delivery is typically not as time-dependent as TV.

I thought DNSG people like the shorter wavelength for easy news feeds for their portably and light weght. I guess they want to stay in Ku for the time being.:)
Is there a dual band Ku and Ka LBNF on the market? Just curious.:)
