New OTA adapter

You can't accuse companies of poor service for not offering you a product they don't offer.
You can accuse them for poor service when you spend 1.5 hours on a phone call talking to people that can't find information that someone on the internet can find on the AT&T customer site.

Yeah ...

That's just what I was about to post.

It's not really the fact that the new LCC is not available for nationwide release yet. That's just life, and we understand all that ...

But the total ignorance of the great majority of the CSRs to have no clue as to what you're talking about or what it basically does. To where you can actually waste 1-1/2 to 2 hrs. until someone finally comes along with knowledge about of it, but only to tell you it's not available.

And even then, still not to understand that merely adding an OTA antenna to the TV does not allow DVR'ing nor an integrated channel guide.

AT&T isn't going to train all their CSRs on stuff that's only available in a couple markets. They aren't hiring the best and brightest for these roles, they are hiring whoever they can get for too little pay. Which is like 95% of company call centers.

So a CSR does not have the ability to do a search on their computers for LCC or local channel connector, or over the air adapter, etc? Yes I don’t expect a CSR to have memorized all aspects of the business, but they should have the tools or knowledge on how to search for an answer to a customers question in a timely manner.

The front entry csr works off of a menu. If the answer isn't there, I doubt there is anywhere to look.

Well, I just lost two hours of my life. Having heard of the Local Channel Connector, I tried to speak th DTV about it. 1.5 hours of getting my call dropped and clueless CSR's I finally got one that knew what I was talking about. But she rigidly steadfastly told me they would not ship to me, only to Utah residents. She suggested I get my own antenna and connect it to my tv... even after I explained, very kindly that I wanted to be able to record OTA. No information about a timeline. Nothing.

DTV customer service got better when ATT took over and was good a year ago. Now it is pee poor! Are they trying to get rid of customers???
You can't get something that is not available. We've posted about this many times.

Anyone in Utah want to order one and sell it to me for $50 more than they paid Directv for it?

I’m serious!

My 'reading between the lines' regarding the LCC is it will be a free item when it is (if it is) rolled out to everyone.

It is a poor design though, requiring both the antenna and the dongle to be separately powered by individual wall warts. I do not know why they could not of just drawn power from the USB port to power the dongle and the antenna.

A USB port is only required to provide 2.5 watts, which may not be enough to power the dongle let alone both. You wouldn't need to use the crappy antenna they ship, and on an indoor antenna an amplifier is more likely to hurt than help.

USB won't provide enough power.
Although haven't seen it yet chances are the antenna is a waste of time for most people. Unless you are near the transmitter, you will need a decent outdoor antenna.

I guess the USB TV tuner requires more power than using the TV's USB port for TV antenna's amplifier? In the manual of the TV antenna's that have an amplifier they say you can use the TV's USB port to power it.

Just because they ship an adapter for the antenna doesn't mean it wouldn't work off a USB port. Heck, maybe the OTA adapter would work off a USB port but they didn't design it that way for other reasons - maybe some of their STBs don't have enough headroom in the power supply and they don't want to risk the draw of the LCC causing problems with a Genie. After all, they didn't design ANY of their STBs with powering a USB device in mind...
