This is where I disagree. Most of those streaming apps already cost an extra monthly fee to a third party to be able to use them. There is no way I would pay Dish extra just for the privilege of using Dish's box to access a service that I already pay extra for. That would be a disincentive to use the Hopper for those. On the other hand, integrated billing, so the additional streaming apps that are available through the Dish box would all appear on one convenient Dish bill, with Dish passing the money for each streaming service directly to each of them, is something that I could support.

not all of them to be honest with you do cost anything Plutotv and Xumo are free if you want to watch great tv the other ones yes do cost a fee to use them.

Developers cost a lot of money. Who is going to write the software?
It has not happened yet so I bet there is no money to be made.
Would you pay $1 for an app? Maybe that would get them to write it. Hulu , Prime, Pluto all need to make money to pay the developers. Other wise they know people will just buy a Roku or Firetv cheap.
 
The other day, I ask Alexa something and her answer was Hmmmm, I don't know that one. So I then told her to search Google for the answer and go no response at all. Alexa is good for playing music, but otherwise useless. I can push a button on my Harmoney for my HWS or TiVo faster than she can think about sending out a command to do the function. And her functions for HWS or TiVo are so limited. Alexa can't even turn the units on or off.

We just use our Alexa for weather updates and it is a good timer too.

The ones that charge a fee can decide whether it is worth the cost to write an app for Dish, in order to attract more paying subscribers. Even the ones that do not charge a fee are supported by advertisers (I am assuming) so they can make the same decision whether it is worth the cost to attract more eyeballs to their service.

Alexa can turn on a Hopper or Wally that is in standby, although it is not exactly intuitive. I use Alexa to turn on my Wally all of the time. Just use any command that you would normally use to navigate to a specific screen ("Alexa, go to Guide" or "Alexa, go to On Demand" for example) and the Wally will turn on. The first use of the command will usually only wake up the Wally, making it necessary to say the command again if I actually want to go to that screen.

Just more advertising for a Harmony Remote in conjunction with Alexa/Google. Voice commands as they are not an end all.
 
I use mine as an alarm clock. I setup a routine so at 5:30am she tells me the weather. Then she tells me the weather again in case I was still asleep the first time. Then she streams the local AM radio station from Tunein so I can listen to the local news and weather while I get ready for work.

I use Alexa all the time. I have an echo plus + 2 echo dots in my main rooms. I control all of my Lutron Caseta lights with Alexa voice commands. I get flash briefings from Columbus Dispatch, CNN, Fox News, NPR, and weather. I control my 2 Hopper3 receivers, Joey2, Amazon 4K Fire Sticks, and Sony TV’s through Alexa. I set timers, alarms, and reminders with Alexa. Alexa was even able to warn me about a road closure when a power line blocked state route 42. I also use Alexa to play music from Pandora, Amazon Music, TuneIn Radio, and IHeart Radio. My Fitbit and Nokia scale are tied to Alexa.
My nephew feels that I have given up privacy since these items could be compromised if Alexa was hacked but I don’t feel that any of my stored info would be of interest to anyone. I do not plan to add digital house locks or my garage door opener to Alexa because that could become a problem if Alexa was hacked.
