Look at their "M180" or "M260" model. It seems the basic Orby receiver is a custom version of those. Perhaps you can get specs with a judicious direct inquiry to Kaon, as you are a noted professional in the field... Hummmm, LOL

Obviously, we are just curious as FTA folk, and don't expect "state secrets" to be divulged.

Well, there's nothing specifically in the FCC database for this receiver, Though other Kaon devices are here: KAONMEDIA Co., Ltd. FCC ID Applications (WQT)

Hooked up the Orby to the fixed 1.2m dish through a 3 X 4 un-powered switch. Hooked up the antenna port on the switch to my OTA distribution amplifier. Scanned in 44 local channels on the Orby receiver. Dish Signal Strength = 95%, Signal Quality = 99%. Showing 42 channels from the dish and 44 from the OTA antenna with program information in the guide for both.
BTW no way to view the resolution - some channels are better then others. Probably because the source varies.

Wow, so the receiver picked up your local ATSC channels, and integrated them into the guide immediately? That's awesome! So, why does Brian or anybody need an ATSC dongle if the tuners already in there?

Whoops, never mind. He didn't say "ATSC dongle", he said "ATSC antenna and diplexer".

The 3 X 4 switch has an OTA port diplexed into the 4 output ports. So the Orby must have an internal reverse diplexer.

Update: Came into the shop this morning to find that the STB updated overnight. The SW version has today's date. The previous version installed on the STB by the factory was dated November, 2018.

Here is the kicker... The STB issues are resolved! Performed a system reset and went through the set-up without a hick-up. BTW, the 22KHz tone is no longer present. Did the STB only need to need to rest overnight (or take a break from me - LOL) or did a software update change something? Anyway, happy to report that like Bob's system, the STB is working flawlessly with the standard linear LNBF LO 10750.


Going to take the ORBY TV to our ham radio club's Winter Field Day campout this weekend and set-up a TV in the social tent next to the coffee. I am sure that the visiting club members will have many questions about this new service.

Will start a new thread about the technical specs when the ORBY TV LNBF and other equipment is installed.

Sounds like there may be plans for adding pay-per-view that can be ordered from the box.

I like the fact that these receivers are made in South Korea vs. China.

LOL, "Kim" is the common family name for about 1/4 of all Koreans. It would be like saying "Smith" here.

That might be so, but Kaon Media is a South Korean company. They probably just outsourced some of their stuff.

Is there any space on the satellite for them to lease for expansion of new channels in the future? Maybe there will be several companies go to them to get channels added in the future that are real cheap or free on that platform as they would on streaming services. Could be a huge lineup if they done that.

It's not like the old days where 1 channel = 1 transponder. They go by available bandwidth now. So, they pay for a certain amount of bandwidth, and fit the amount of channels available to that. So, more channels may be had/made available/uplinked by either taking bandwidth from other channels OR them paying for additional bandwidth. Either way they probably have plenty available for future needs.
