I know that this has probably been discussed before, but I didn't see it.

My bill jumped from $99.00 to $130.00( I have AT200 with Hopper3 and two Joeys) due to 3 year price lock ending. I called Dish and the best the CS would offer was $115.00 on a 2 year price lock, that is giving a $10.00 discount on the AT200 and a $5.00 discount on the Hopper3. I about excepted it, but then decided to think about it and call back.

Question is. What are some of the deals people have been receiving recently? I was talking to an Account Specialist.

Thanks.

H3 and one joey and Flex here and did the 2 year price lock to avoid this years $2 price increase and saving $5/month on the hopper fees. I don't think you'll do much better and its hard to beat a H3 for features and speed.

Same deal I got a few months ago when I took another 2 yr price lock (with Flex). It’s not much but better than an increase.

I’d have used to say you can do much better by talking to retention and getting about a minute from them shutting you off, but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore with Dish and other tv companies. That’s seems reasonable what you were offered and you won’t have a rate increase next or next year.

Exactly!!! I really need to do some SERIOUS research into cutting the chord. It's the DVR that keeps me paying for a TV service.
My son never had cable so he doesn't really know what he might be missing. Instead he has an indoor antenna that gets some of the locals, basic Hulu and Netflix and says he finds plenty to watch.

My bill went up $30/mo just like the OP, and I called one number which I found here on SG which I am guessing was retentions. I am not supposed to speak this aloud, but they made me happy if you know what I mean. I did no other begging/pleading/threatening; I just told them my bill skyrocketed due to expiration of the price lock, and they were very forthcoming. Great experience... Until next year this time!

Watching isn't the problem. It's saving. Movies, I can just d/l to my EHD and stream via Plex, but sometimes things show up that I want to keep that can't be downloaded, like the news broadcasts of the Washington, IL Tornado of 2013 or when ESPN Classic played the 1974 Stanley Cup Final series between Buffalo and Philadelphia. That was my first year as a Hockey/Sabres fan so that has sentimental value. I doubt I could download those so the DVR is a big deal - or I'm just grasping at straws because human nature is to resist drastic change

Well we’re spoiled by the dvr!
That said I have lots of things recorded but I’m finding myself almost never watching the older recordings. Too many new things that are getting my attention.

Last September I got AT200, the Movie Pack with EPIX, Starz and Showtime at 5 bucks each for six months, The Blaze TV and a Hopper 3 and a 4k Joey for $105.03 before state & federal tax. The AT200 monthly at $62.99 and equipment at $17.00 are good for two years on a price lock.

The $62.99 AT200 does not include local channels.

I cannot even imagine my home TV system without a DVR. Unless streaming can match my TV DVR capability, I will never give up my Hopper 3.
Right! I can probably duplicate almost every aspect of my video experience, other than that. I have 1 GB/s Internet with a Mesh Router system with a Node at the Modem and one at my TV, so 100% WiFi speed isn't an issue.
OTA for locals. My Firestick (Which I need to upgrade) will get me most of my TV Viewing. I'm not sure how many channels have Apps I need to pay for and how many, if any stream for free.

Plus Plex for streaming movies, which I download and store on a 7200 RPM Seagate 4 TB EHD. And that's just off the top of my head.

I've been doing well with Tivo and the local cable company. Purchased a lifetime sub for six boxes about 5 years ago. Still going strong.
